a challenge

Recommended Posts

ok i am a 15 year old 18 handicapper. i have been playing just over a year and have a good swing and my coach seems to believe that i can get of scratch in 2 or 3 years. I am doing GCSE this year which for you yanks are very big examas that define your university option and career this means i am donating a lot of time to preparing for those until june.

The good news i then have a 3 month summer to donate COMPLETELY to golf. i intend to spend 7 or 8 hours a day during the summer.

ok the challenge by the summer i turn 18 which is 2012 i want to of qualified for the british open.

Golf is my nummber one sport and i donate a considerable amount of time and intend to be of single figures before 2010 is out.

is this do able?

Scratch in 2-3 years, definitely "do-able" (I did it 1 and a half and now I'm almost a 2 again, lol). I bet if you work hard you'll be an 8 by the end of this year.
But qualifying for the Open is going to be close to impossible. Focus on getting a little tournament experience, maybe play some tourneys in the states and try to qualify in about 8-10 years.

Hope this helps.

Wow...I definately think you have a chance of getting to scratch (at least the US version of scratch, I think yours across the pond is much harder to achieve). I would agree with the others, playing in the Open Championship that soon is unlikely. So unlikely I would call it quite possibly the most impressive golf accomplishment I have ever heard! However, there is a saying something like "if you think you can or think you can't you are probably right" so good luck!

dont want to piss on your bonfire but playing in the open 2 and a half years from now = no chance
you are going to have to post 5 under or something along those lines on a much tougher course that you are used to, and you may find the situation difficult to handle

to get to single figures by the end of the year is a massive task when you think you have to come down 9 shots, i believe scratch in 5 years is a realistic target if you work hard and maybe consider open qualifying the year after
only extremely talented players make it as a tour pro before their mid 20's
i myself hope to be off scratch by the start of 2013, and i might start giving open qualifying a realistic shot in 2014 or 15

oh and GCSE's really arent that important, trust me, teachers build them up to uphold the school reputation as long as you get into the college you want to that is all that matters, as long as you get a C in maths, english, and science, universities will look at your college grades as whether they accept you or not, GCSE grades only really matter if you apply to study something very difficult at university such as dentistry and physiotherapy. Trust me they are overrated, i didnt revise for mine and got 3 B's and 5 C's which got me into the best college in the midlands, and that all that matters :)
