All white box from Titleist
So I filled out a survey on Titleist.com about a month ago, and on Wed FedEX droped off a package. In the package was a small white box with 4 golfballs (2 of each) for me to play and review. One set is marked with a triangle and the other set with a solid black triangle. Has has been to cold to play, but next week looks better.

I cant wait to try them out as well. The weather has been so bad here in TX lately. Not used to the 30 degree temps all day. Looks like the best place to be in the US right now is Arizona or SoCal. The rest of the country is COOOOOOLLLLLLLLLDDDDD brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Ill give a full report when I get a chance to test them and also try to take some screen shots of the panel that I have to report in to for Acushnet.

I got my box last Wed also. I sent a note to the email address in the letter that accompanied the box telling them that I probably wouldn't get to use them within the two weeks that they hoped I would. The response was something to the effect of: "We tried to identify players in warmer locations, but we understand that the vast majority of the country is frozen. We'll leave the survey open until we have enough response for statistical accuracy." I'm going to try to get on a launch monitor this afternoon just for grins, but having putted / chipped around with them, I still like the Callaways (Tour iX) better -- the Titleist's are just too "soft" for me. I prefer the solid click against the putter / club face the Callaways create.

(All of my buddies are jealous, though -- the packaging and "labeling" on these prototype balls really looks cool. Especially with the documentation that came with it biggrin.gif )

Not to be critical, but why would they send balls to test in parts of the country that aren't conducive to testing. Several other manufacturers are having shipments of new product sent to warmer climes in limited release. I don't know, but I won't think you are going to get favorable results when it is below 50 and winter conditions. Even here in Houston, it has been less than desirable golf weather. Just a thought-

Down here in Northwest AR (not Arizona), the weather is usually playable year-round except for a few days at a time; this freak weather hitting the entire country (snow in FL?) wasn't predicted when they were deciding areas to target for testers...

I love how nobody wants to share the secret on how to get on this panel good.gif

Read the first post in the thread. A link to a survey was sent to my home email account by Titleist; I filled out the survey and got a box with 4 golf balls and a note about a month later.

also, what the heck kind of panel is this? a bunch of snowbound golfers who can't play until april supposed to test the new pro v? ridiculous.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right -- some of us got bored and created a giant, lame hoax about being selected for a testing panel... crazy.gif

Okay, I finally got out and played some with these things. They're really impressive, and clearly meant for the new grooves. I usually play a Callaway Tour iX; a standard approach shot for me will land fairly softly and roll out about 3-6 feet. With these triangle-labeled balls, virtually everything was backing up about 2-4 feet (even from the light, dormant rough that's no longer snow covered). The hollow triangle spun more than the solid triangle, but not a whole lot more. As for distance, they weren't any longer than the Callaways; on the flip-side, they weren't any shorter, either. They reminded me a lot of the old Tour Professionals, but the durability is really impressive. I typically start peeling the cover off the Tour iX with a full gap wedge shot (Mizuno MP-T 53*). After ~36 holes with these, they still look almost new!

The bad news is that I'm very picky about the feel (sound) of the ball at impact, particularly with my putter. I like the "click" that the Callway's have (and I know that there are plenty of people who dislike the click as much as I like it) and these things sound dead at impact. So for me, that's a show-stopper. I know that for others, though, that's a great thing. So to each his own, but I probably won't be playing these in the future unless I find a course that would demand me to be able to spin the ball back on the green.

To summarize:

significant spin (with pre-2010 grooves; Titleist ZM's w/ PX6.0)

great durability

no distance loss

very "dead" sound
