ISU or KU??

Anyone here play for either school?
I am senior this year and am attending one of the schools, I'm looking to walk on but wanted to hear what someone who plays for them thinks of the program, coaches and practice facility. also if you walked on what was the process like, did you have to be cleared by the NCAA clearing house, what did you need to shot, etc. If any one goes their but does not play on the team but played their courses what were they like. any info is much appreciated.

ISU=Iowa State University, KU=Kansas University

BTW: both schools have the academics i want, just curious about golf.

First piece of advice, never, I mean NEVER, take advice from a Mizzou alum. They don't even spell their school's name correctly on their jerseys!! Just watch ESPN @ 8 PM tonight for proof/the biggest a$$-whooping of the year... Just kidding CTW262... Kind of...

Seriously, you'll probably get to play a little more in Lawrence due to the less harsh winters compared to Ames. Plus the courses they play are pretty fun. Kansas is not as flat as you might think, especially Lawrence. It's beautiful. Plus, they have The Wheel. Just ask Scott Van Pelt...

Rock Chalk!!!

Obviously, I'm very biased as an ISU alum. I didn't play there in college, but have met Jay Horton at several golf outings and he seems to be a top notch guy. Really cares for his kids. ISU has two top notch courses. Veenker Memorial is the university course and is located on campus. It's a short and tight course where the Iowa Masters is held every year. However, ISU treats The Harvester as their home course for meets. In my humble opinion, it is the best course in Iowa. So it's definately worth a trip to Iowa to check it out - although we're having a blizzard today, so I'd wait until spring. I do believe the ISU kids come to Des Moines in the winter to hit balls at Longview - its a heated dome with a two tiered range, about 75 yards to the nets.

As mentioned above, KU will have better weather and a longer outdoor season. And I do have to support Big 12 schools...even KU.

As a Mizzou fan, supporting KU is blasphemy, but all kidding aside, take your visits and pick which campus best suits your personality. For example, I could not even consider living in a rural area, nothing wrong with it, but it's just not for me. So pick whichever school fits you best.

Know a guy who played at KU and graduated in about 07. I know in high school he won state twice, 5A. He was a below scratch golfer. Shot anywhere from 66-70 at the private courses around here. I would recommend KU. I may also be there next year. It's between KU and LSU for me, but not for golf.

I go to Iowa but am from Ames. In the summers, I play at Veenker and know a few guys that have played at Iowa State the past few years. Veenker is a very tight course that will really help you hone your accurace. As previously stated, they do treat the Harvester as their home course and it is one of the nicest courses I have ever played. Iowa State recently put in a heated practice range on the driving range at Veenker that can be used in the winter by the players. Not really sure about Kansas, but academically ISU is very solid. If I were you, I would choose somewhere where you can succeed academically as well, it will pay off in the long run. I'll probably be working/playing at Veenker this summer so if you do end up attending Iowa State, let me know and we can play sometime. Best of luck to you.

Just a heads up.....A lot (probably not all) of Division 1 schools do not even hold a walkon tryout. The only walkons that are brought in are "recruited." These are usually players who get in touch with the coach and are then offered a spot on the team based on their resume/potential, just with no scholarship. I would contact the coach to see if the have a walkon tryout/tournament.
