True Temper Black Gold

ive played them and coupled with my old r7 tp's they were the best irons ive ever hit.

Im quite a high spin player so although i love the feel of the dg's i use now they do tend to balloon into head winds. However i never had this problem with the black golds, they do launch higher but flatten out and penetrate at their apex.

They feel butt stiff, but still feel very nice. I suppose you could say they are a smooth project x (which i hate). The closest shaft still in production that feel like the black golds are the kbs although i still prefer the black golds.

They are in my bag with the Adams Forged irons. They feel a little more stout than the Dynamic Gold's, but I agree with the other poster about ball flight. Very nice feel with tighter shot dispersion than DG (imho).

I had them in my CG1 black pearls, awesome shafts, sure smooth not to spiny got a great trajectory and loads of feedback.
Id still have them as well if they weren't stolen last year

Here's what I think based on what I've tried - I have them in my X-Protos in X and they as stout as X100s, but much smoother and with a tad more feel. They also have way more feel than my flighted Rifle 6.0s, even though those are a flex down, but I think it has something to do with the weight of the shafts and heads. Trajectory is higher than X100s, but lower than S300s and the Rifles. No LM stats to confirm, but they spin comparable to Rifles, but more than X100s and less than S300s. Dispersion wise they are on par with X100s and Rifles, and much tighter than S300s.

I have them in a set of X prototypes. I ordered the X protos with Dynamic Gold X100's and was disappointed when they came in wrong. I was told by Callaway to try them out, and if I didn't like them they would reshaft the irons at no charge for me. I'm glad I tried them before switching them out. They fly higher than the DGX, but they spin less for me. They flatten out and carry nicely, probably a half club longer for me than the DGX due to the reduced spin. Feel is just silky smooth, although the descending weight took a little getting used to. The clubs swingweight light due to the descending weight, but the swingweight does match up better club to club. All of my irons swingweight at D1-D2, where with the DGX, the swingweight would get progressively heavier in the shorter irons. By far the best thing about these shafts is the control. Dispersion is much tighter with these shafts, and I have never tried a shaft that is easier to flight down. The normal ballflight is mid-high for me, but when I hit a knockdown, it is REALLY low, penetrating, and the wind simply does not touch it. The only drawback I have found is that they are hard to find individually, and I would love to reshaft my wedges with this shaft.

I never tried them until last year when I picked up a set of Adams Idea Pro irons. They were my gamers for the second half of the year. Good feel, control, liked them all around. I had been trying to like the KBS Tours, have them in a couple of sets, but maybe I haven't found the right combo for me, I much prefer the Black Gold's....

I had a set in some CG1s. I found them to play stiff to flex. I also found them to be boardy-er than Rifles. If you're a 5.5 or 6.0 guy, I'd recommend the Black Golds in R rather than S. Just my $.02.

they play noticably stiffer than the reported flex. if youre between flexes, id suggest going lower. the feel is outstanding, and they look sweet.

only cause for concern is they are notoriously difficult to swingweight. essentially a clubbuilders nightmare. if youre thinking of installing, send em to somebody good.

The last 3 sets of irons I have gamed (J33, Idea Pro, J36) I have put the Black Golds into play. X-100 shafts soft-stepped once. Creates a great launch angle with good spin. Even though they are soft-stepped, they frequency consistently at 6.7 with a SW of D4. Hope this helps.
