Fundamentals about shaft fitting, etc...

can someone explain them?
A little about myself first:

I'm 18 years old, about a 2 or 3 handicap and getting better every day, and I hit a high cut

It used to be that I would just determine what shaft to get based on flex and color and that was fine. Now, however, as I am getting better, I notice that different shafts make much more of a difference.

My current driver is a 983k 9.5* with an NV75 stiff shaft, but I feel it is too heavy and creates too much spin and I'd like to try possibly one of the Fujis

First off, I understand that (in general) lighter weight = more torque

also, a lower kickpoint = higher trajectory, but are intended more for higher handicappers

with this limited knowledge, I have selected the Fuji Speeder 652

I am justified in choosing this shaft? its 66 grams, 3.7 torque, and medium kick point that is supposed to produce medium spin with a high trajectory

I don't see why it would be a high trajectory when its a medium kcikpoint? can comeone explain?

I know its not possible to choose the right shaft unless you actually hit them, but I'd like to get the general ide of what I'm looking for.

Any advice?

If I were you, I would concentrate more on getting better on the game. IMO your knowledge on club/shaft spec and fitting are enough to get you to chose the right clubmaker to work on your sticks.

There are good clubmakers out there who can do a good job cosmetically but to understand the products he is carrying and understand to fit them properly w/ the players is The ART to itself. Understanding what the players looking, especially a feel players is just not an easy task.

Book is good to guide in the technical stuff but equipment is constantly changing. what is work before may not work today.

NV 75 is already a midhi kick point shaft, if you feel that shaft is to heavy and to much spin, you need to find a stiffer tip shaft and if possible higher kick point and lower torque...especially w/ you handicap or maybe you need a lower loft.

Lighter shaft doesn't always mean lower torque. Now a days, I can find you lighter weight that make you scream handling the torque that tight as hell.

A lot of time spec on the brochure doesn't reflect properly in real play. I can't help you to much in chosing the shaft if you can give me the complete info of your swing and the club you are trying to reshaft. Read the sticky above in this clubmaker folder about "For you guys asking for a help in picking a shaft! ", then i can help you some more...you can even call me if you have to. Last but not least, it might not be the shaft also, it could be your swing that create to much of descending blow at impact. So try to check all factors first before jumping trying to find the right shaft. For your age and handicap, fixing the swing shouldn't be to hard. off course if both ( swing and club ) aspect are good...it would be " heaven on earth", right?

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the good info

I can assure you I spend every day working on my game, whether its practicing or playing...but I am aware that the right shaft can make a big difference, and I wanted some opinions.

I noticed that on the Fujikura website (http://www.fujikuragolf.com/pages/speed.html) , it gives a general idea about the different shafts and how they compare to one another based on spin, trajectory, weight, and tempo. Do you think these attributes accurately depict the performance of these shafts? or is the only way to tell to actually hit them?

BOTH!!! Just like TMgolfboy said!!!

The engineer can try to design anything but he still need to deal w/ different players charracteristic and some of them are pretty unique.

Same specs from 2 shafts can give give a different result and feel. Everything in live is trial and error. However, The more experience you are the less error you will make also. This is why my knowledge of shafts doesn't come cheap, The more i test and try the more i know what and how they perform.

Again, you are not giving us enough info of your swing & club for us to be able to help you.

Joe
