Funniest Golf Moment

Recommended Posts

high school, college, w/e
I was playing a high school meet last year..only 3 teams I believe. I was paired up with someone else on my team (he's a longballer).

Of course he smashes the tee shot..at least 290-295 uphill. I here him go "10 bucks if you can put it past mine" to an opponent jokingly (he's got some serious ADD). This guy is a bigger buy, you'd think he'd be able to get it that far if he really hit it good.

Dead pull into the woods I couldn't stop laughing during the whole hole. I'm better than this teammate of mine, but he plays 1 man just to get into peoples heads.

Last summer I was playing a round with a guy I got paired up with by the course. We came to a 330 yd downhill par 4. I hadn't been hitting my driver well so I laid up with a 5 iron and got called a wuss by my playing partner. He ends knocking his ball just short of the fringe of the green. I stick a 9 iron to 5 feet. He SHANKS his chip into a bunker (awful bunker player). I start rolling on the ground laughing. He makes triple and I birdie. Silence from him for the rest of the round.

I ended up shooting 74 to his 82.

In a high school match, the guys we are playing with don't know the course, so they're asking where the trouble is on every hole. We get to the ninth and my teammate goes, "There's OB left, but it's protected by a bunch of trees and there's nothing on the right. I mean, the driving range is OB right, but you would have to slice it like 90 yards haha." Proceeds to slice it across the first fairway and on the driving range OB. We were on the ground laughing.

Playing in a high school golf match (this was like 9 years ago, UGH) at my team's home course (Los Verdes GC in CA). The 6th hole is a longish Par 5 that bends severely to the left. If you're a righty there is a row of houses behind you when you tee off with a chain link fence within like 15-20 feet of the tee box. Anyway, this kid on the other team is just eyeing this hole down, I mean really thinking about hitting the big hero draw that allows you to get home in 2. He steps up, takes a huge rip, and BARELY catches the crown of the ball, which sends the ball dribbling between his legs to the edge of the tee box where it proceeds to roll down the little hill and under the chain link fence OB. Needless to say I collapsed in a fit of laughter (so did he).

I played with a kid in a high school match a couple years ago. We're on a par 4 with water about 200 yards out so he decides to lay up off the tee. He swings hits so far behind the ball he makes a divot a good 8 inches behind the ball misses the ball completely and the divot knocks the ball off the tee. Without hesitation, he tees the ball back up and hits it again, this time it's a 50 yard dribbler. The kid was playing so bad I didn't have the heart to call him out on it, but it made my round a lot more enjoyable.

For high school?

BTW.... this was pre tiger days, so the competition wasn't as severe and golf was barely a viable sport at my HS. I had no clue and someone told me all I really had to do was show up and I would make the team.

I "showed up" as a freshman and fired a crowd pleasing 58 on 9...... I think 45 or 46 was the lowest guy that ended up making the team, so I was only off by 12-13 and probably the worst score my 6 or 7. I wasn't laughing, but some of the other guys were. Turns out, the guy who told me and I had different definitions of "showing up". Mine was literal and his was, let's say, not so much in the literal physical sense of attending the event, but more in the "shoot an alright score" one.

Never did try out again, but wouldn't have come close anyways. Hockey was my true sport.

A Looonnnggg time ago when I was playing in a high school tournament, I reached the final hole, a par 5, in two. But I was way at the back of the green. The funny part was that there were cheerleaders at the final hole. They were sitting cross-legged (5 of them) around the side of the green. I was thinking, "WTF?" Then they started doing this thing with their pom-poms where they were sort of rustling them on the ground making a "ssshhhh" noise. Now I'm really spaced out. I proceeded to putt my ball off the green past a front pin location. I chip back on and three putt for a double. From eagle to double with the cheerleaders watching. I'll never forget that.
