Shorts length and materials

Some of the snooty private clubs have rules about the length of shorts and even prohibit cargo shorts.
I like the "traditionalism" of golf and don't think denim is a good idea. Even on our municipal courses they ask you not to wear it.
As far as shorts length, I think if they come down to where your fingertips are it is not considered too short. The irony is that if you wear a skort, it's likely to be shorter than what is considered acceptable for shorts!

Thanks! Another thread here sort of got me thinking about this... I looked at the pics and wondered if that was really appropriate, but then I do wear fairly short shorts sometimes (for comfort and so my tan line isn't TOO messed up, haha) and on cheaper/more casual public courses do also wear denim shorts too. It is interesting to see what other people think and if there is a general agreement about it.

Yep, that was the thread, lol. Even if they are flattering and she perhaps because of body type looks better in shorter than longer shorts, should shorts like that ever be worn on any course?

Funny thing about the short arms mention-- I thought that rule hit me the other way actually, as I have long arms, haha.

I honestly think that there is a "Who can wear the shorter skirt" thing going on! At my club the average age is about 60 so there is no real worries about short anything! I am probably the youngest person there and I tend to wear short skirts, but I go by the finger tip rule! I am sure younger girls really do care! I also think that the LPGA has to do something about it..I understand the shorter the better viewing...but come on, its almost all about the dressing and not golf! I think golf attire, I think professional looking! I think it should stay that way! The poor guys can not wear shorts and the girls are darn near wearing nothing!

Like you Paka, I wear the Nike shortie shorts at times in the summer with no problems from my club. Some of the skorts I wear are of the same length so I really see no difference. I'm not out of shape so I guess it's acceptable...? I like the bermuda shorts also, and wear those quite frequently.

I think the LPGA is trying to get more viewership and are using the cute and/or sexier women to "vamp" it up a bit. Hey, if the LPGA doesn't have a problem with it, who are we to judge? Personally, I think the LPGA could use the exposure...they're slowly losing more and more tourneys.

If the girls wearing it don't have an issue with it, then who cares? If ya got it use it.

Yeah that is the problem some people have to much of it and flaunt it and its not real pleasent!

You may wear any length short in which you are comfortable -- and look good wearing. However, short shorts are generally forbidden along with halter tops even on public courses. For whatever reason, denim is forbidden on many courses, including semi-private and daily fee courses. Also, not permitted in women's public links tournaments in this area. Be sure to check dress codes regarding shorts, shirts, and denim to avoid embarrassment or being turned away when you arrive at the course.
