Rain suits for tropical climates

Does anyone have any recommendations for light rain gear. The problem is the humidity makes it almost impossible to wear anything that I've tried.

 

I live in a tropical climate & have purchased high quality gear( galvin green) which is great for milder climates but impossible to where in the tropics ! I've found even the light suits offered by most manufacturers are to heavy .

 

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Went to Hawaii last year and went on a search for light weight rain gear, not much unfortunately, best response I got to this question was to get a good umbrella. And he was right. I know this isn't what you want but it's a legit thought.

IMO if it's over 80 degrees i don't mind getting wet. Biggest thing would be like the previous poster said: get a good umbrella. It keeps you dry plus you can hang your towels on the inside of the umbrella to keep them dry too. I've always thought keeping your body dry was only important if the rain would lower your body temp too much. Don't think you would have that problem in a tropical climate.

i like waterproof vests on hotter days.

Short sleeve gortex rain jacket and rain shorts. The rain shorts I have convert to pants (or is it the other way around??).

I've worn them in 80+ degree weather.

I wear short sleeve rain shirts and have the pants with the legs that zip off to make shorts. If it is a day when it looks like it is going to rain all day, I zip the legs off the pants and wear them with no other short on under them. I have also done the same with the rain shirts. If I am already playing and it starts raining, I sort of evaluate how wet am I going to get before I break out the rain gear. I generally do not mess with an umbrella unless it is an absolute downpour. In any rain, I break out the rain gloves first, then the rain shorts (only because of the wet cart seat). Playing in tropical heat...your shirt is probably already wet to some degree from sweat so a little rain is not too bad. BTW, I have both Zero Restriction and Macgregor Tourney (which can't find any more) rain gear. Both are GoreTex.

I generally don't bother with pants but either go with a water resistant vest (I have a nike one I purchased from Golf World) or a FJ jacket which is really light yet water resistant.

ive got this adidas short sleeve jacket that amazing. completely water and windproof, yet im comfortable wearing it in the middle of summer. i dont mind my arms getting wet, just carry along a dry towel to keep your hands dry.

I realize that you are in Australia and I Im in eastern Canada. We normaly have a heatwave in late July/early August (very hot and so humid you can hardly move), when it rains it's almost unbearable. That said, Gortex is the keyword but, remember that you will sweat no matter what you wear. My experience is as follows: A Gortex outfit will set me back $400 and you risk ruining it if you go look for a ball in the woods (I hate looking for other people's ball in the woods, don't you?). Although I have a FootJoy DryJoys suit, (one notch below Gortex) I have found at COSTO a full outfit (jacket/pants) by WETSKINS at $50, waterproof and, it has a HOOD, something traditional golf gear does not. I wear them both depending on where I play that day. The WETSKINS is bulkier but I think it's a small price to pay to prevent water from running down my back when putting/chipping (b/c of the HOOD remember?). Hope I could have been of help.

BTW, I found white cotton gloves at the dollar store that I use instead of $35 FJ/WILSON/TITLEIST cotton rain gloves. Microfiber gloves are also excelent for sweaty hands.

SunMountain Rain Flex is the ticket for hot / humid climates. I live in Florida, and summer golf is 50/50 that you will get rain at some point in your round. I have both the long & short sleeve versions of this jacket and highly recommend them! They are light, flexible, quiet, and breathable. They offer good water resistance except in really HEAVY rain. Then I use a heavier, more traditional suit like Zero Restriction.
