Boys trip New Orleans vs. Myrtle for bachelor party?

Recommended Posts

I am planning a bachelor party for end of August or early September 8-12 guys. Actually looking for an ideal place to cover all our vices. Yes everything that you would think goes on at a bachelor party plus at least one Casino needs to be available. Any place come to mind other than Vegas? We are right in middle America leaving from St. Louis. Decent golf and nightlife a must. My vote is for Myrtle Beach but if anybody has any other ideas please fire away. New Orleans was another suggestion but seems to be a little too spread out without transportation. All ears boys. Thank You in advance.

If you stay in the French Quarters (which is really the only place you would want to go in New Orleans, aside from a golf course), it is a few blocks (and they are not big blocks) that is no problem on foot. We go once a year, and our vehicle does not get cranked until we check out of the hotel.

I have never been to Myrtle Beach, but New Orleans would get my vote if I'd never been to either. You can always rent a vehicle for the day to go to the golf course, or call a Taxi and let them know you have clubs.

Myrtle Beach hands down =) The number of amazing courses down there is hard to beat.

New Orleans doesn't offer a ton for golf, but it's got everything else you'll need for a killer bachelor party. Almost too much....

You've got the TPC and Lakewood that just is reopening, both have hosted tour events. Not too much else of higher quality. You'll be able to get around with shuttles or a big rental van.

If you're going for a few days, I'd look into starting in Biloxi MS for some great golf and casinos, then go over to New Orleans for the last night or two tops. After two nights on Bourbon Street, you'll probably be ready to head out. One can only take so much.

Actually, there are "casinos" near Myrtle Beach although they are gambling cruises. The poker games there are pretty soft. The courses are fantastic (granted, I have never played golf in Nola). Also, there is a pretty rich "talent pool" at certain establishments in Myrtle.....so I've been told.beach.gif

As a person who lives in New Orleans, i would shy away from coming down here in early September. Hurricane season is usually pretty dicey from early August through September. Obviously since Katrina we've been pretty fortunate though.

I used to live in South Carolina and Myrtle Beach is a much better place for a golf bachelor trip than NO if golf is your primary focus. I mean, you can't really go wrong with all the fantastic courses in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area. Not to mention, a pretty decent night life and awesome golf shopping if that's your thing.

If you focus is getting the full Bourbon street experience, gambling, hitting strip clubs, eating at fantastic restaurants and also playing a few really solid golf courses, then NO is the place for you.

One thing to consider, you may want to stay in Biloxi at one of the Casino's and play at some of the best courses in the gulf coast. Grand Bear, Fallen Oak, The Preserve just to name a few are associated with Casino's in Biloxi.

If you have any further questions, please PM me and i'll be happy to help.

Since it's a bachelor party, I'd say focus more on the nighlife (but that's just me)....New Orleans or Vegas would def be the top choices...but with that being said, I also live in the New Orleans area and hurricanes could very well cause a problem, especially around the time that you are planning your trip...There's just no way of knowing for sure...But if playing golf is more important, New Orleans would be at the bottom of my list.

I have done 4 "Bachelor Party Golf Trips" several times and I am going to throw this out there....

Bachelor Party Trip = Future wife WILL look at this trip as "Bad News". I know some of you will say my wife wouldn't care etc. But to have a bachelor party in a different area code (assumig no one in her family will be attending) will be seen by her (and possibly the other wives)as potential hazard/disaster. Did it, done it, listen to my warning.

Here is my suggestions and take it for what you will....
1) Sell this as a GOLF Trip! Strictly golf with guys, a few beers in the clubhouse after, 36 holes a day, man we are going to be tired blah blah blah.

2) OPTICS - Las Vegas - BAD (she knows you ain't going for the golf)
New Orleans - Iffy, everyone has seen what happens on the streets and bars of New Orleans, doesn't matter if you are not going during Mardi Gras.

3) Myrtle Beach- ahhh, golf, golf and more golf, pretty much a sausage fest at the bars (remember this is what she is thinking).

Remember, all you need are some beers, great golf, a poker game at the hotel and "The Masters" (do a search in Myrtle Beach).

Your friends wife is happy, he is happy and he won't get the third degree on the cell phone everynight while you're down there. Other than that have fun!

I've been to both places several times. My first thought was New Orleans hands down. Then after reading all the posts, I started leaning toward Myrtle. However, the one thing that will be a deal breaker, is "How important is the casino to you" If it's a must, then don't even consider Myrtle, as someone said the party cruises offer gambling, but it's like drinking a non alcoholic beer, just isn't the real thing.

If you feel you can do without the casino, then listen to all the things Smooth Scot said, he pretty much nailed it. Also another thing is trust me, late nights on Burbon will make it tough for that many guys to answer the bell in the morning. That's a lot of guys to worry about who's still out, where's such and such and getting everyone up.

Myrtle you can still have a great time at night (see Masters) and get a full nights sleep. Which ever way you go, enjoy!!

I have been to Vegas a few times to gamble but always found the golf to be absurdly expensive! Some of our crew were not looking to drop a few G's on a long weekend. I am willing but not ultra-excited about it myself. Myrtle just seems to offer the most stay and play package idea's than any other and most people on this site rave about the quality of courses within reach. What about Tahoe? It seems Casino is playing a larger role in this than I expected and I honestly don't think the "casino cruise" will cut it. Tahoe nightlife?

Why not head North to Montreal. Great places for your vices there and some decent golf. Also pretty nice in August. I was in New Orleans last summer and Biloxi and it was hotttttttttt and buggy.

Montreal has Casinos, hot clubs, and decent golf (maybe have to travel 1/2 an hour or so from downtown) and August is good weather.....

Niagara Falls Canada...Your dollar will go a long way, you can fly into Buffalo. There is a Canadian Casino and US Casino. Some great courses, ballet joints, nightlife etc.

Check out the Niagara Golf Trail.
