Footjoy purchase with Boa system

Recommended Posts

Using AQL's at moment
I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of shoes this season. I'm currently wearing 3 year old AQL Footjoys size UK9.5W.

The AQL's have been great, comfortable from the first wear, but they are showing their age and recently my feet have ached after the round. It may be unfair to blame the shoes but I think I've had my monies worth from them.

I've heard about the BOA system and like the idea of how it fits the foot into the shoe.I would like to try this.

What would be the best FJ's with this system and would it be safe to order directly from an online source and trust the new shoe with the same size as the AQL.

any comments gratefully accepted.

Unless you know you Fooetjoy size and what model fits you best, I wouldn't order online. Each FJ model is built on a different "last." Depending upon the shape of your foot (I have wide feet with a high instep), you can get a better fit with different models of the same "size." For example, the Contour models fit me better tha n the DryJoy models. Bottom line, unless you "know" what fits you well, I wouldn't order online.

Having said that, FJ finally came out with a Boa in the Contours. I love mine. The system ensures there is even pressure on the shoe.

I bought a pair of the ReelFit and I was not satisfied. I am a big guy 6'4'' 240 size 14 wide, and they did not seem to hold up. I took them back in favor of good old fashion wax laces. They get the job done and if they break your not out a shoe. What I noticed was the plastic eyelids for the laces getting cut into by the thine cable. I also noticed the tension I needed to feel "right", was not easy to attain or maintain. The knob on the back of the shoe was very hard to turn, again a am a relatively strong man and I would have to use my golf towel for grip and crank away. Then during the round they needed a tightening tune-up, and occasionally if you hit the back of the shoe exiting the cart or such the lace lock would pop out and release the laces. All in all more of a hassle than function for me. That being said many people love them, so it is always best to buy a shoe in the store, pay the premium price, and have the ability to exchange it or what not. Good luck.

I did a search and found that my AQL's were model 52710K and Laser Last. So at least I can work on that.
I will do a shop fitting and then try to get a price match with the online prices.

I am a little concerned about rmc26's comments over the BOA system so if I decide to go with these I am perhaps better getting them from a national retailer in the hope that they will be happier to deal with the after service..

So which current model is best for comfort, I have wide feet and occasionally suffer ingrowing toe nails.

I just purchased my 2nd pair of FJ's with BOA. First was the ReelFit -- wore them for 3 years and they're still in good shape. Got a pair of Icons with the BOA system and have only gotten to use them a couple of times, but I'm definitely a fan! I've had no issues with the lacing system at all; it's actually very convenient. No re-lacing at the turn :)

i have 2 pair of FJ with BOA and love both. started with the reelfit, and now own the contour BOA. they are very comfortable, and the BOA system is convenient and comfortable. i tried on the ICON but couldnt justify the extra money over the new contours. but you cant go wrong with either shoe

Just bought a pair of FJ Contours, unfortunately I couldn't find any shops stocking the boa system model so I made do with traditional lace.

So far they feel great, I have them on in the house. I have a game tomorrow so lets hope my feelings about them are still the same tomorrow night.

As a matter of interest, I tried on a pair of Adidas 360 4.0 and even walking around the store I could feel the heel slipping, needless to say this put me off them straight away.
