i need the hottest-faced putter known to mankind....

i have a pretty doggone silky stroke........on the taylormade MATS i'm text book........but my stroke, while very pure, is too delicate. on fast greens i flourish, but i really struggle to get the ball to the hole on slow greens (the greens are usually 9.0ish on my home track unless they roll them). i leave putt after putt after putt short. very disheartening. i have a scotty studio select (it prolly has the liveliest face of my stable of putters), a scotty red x, a spider vincino, an odyssey two ball and two heavy putters (a mid weight and lite weight). does the ball really hop off the face of the nike method due to the forward roll technology? am thinking about trying one of those. btw, i have crenshaw style open/close stroke. my loft at address is whatever the loft of the putter face is......i don't forward press at all. i do release the putter, but with soft hands and a very consistent smooth tempo. any thoughts would be appreciated.

The PING iN putters with the Nano Nickel inserts are quite hot. The ball really jumps off the face with that insert. For your putting style, maybe the ZB2 style. I really like the feel of the iN insert.

I've never tried any putter that has such a hot face.

I'd try a putting a thin grip on a current putter first - increased feel could make all the difference for a super smooth stroke.

I remember the first time I hit a Yes putter and was surprised how much it rolled compared to my putter at the time a Ping Craz-e. You could try one of those.

I use a DASS putter on really fast greens and a carbon steel one for slower greens. The SS head on the DASS putter gives more feedback being a harder metal. To get the same feedback I have to hit the carbon putter a little harder since the metal is softer.

The greens at the local muni here has slow greens. I moved here just over 2 years ago and as first these greens drove me crazy. I lost confidence and things went down hill from there. So this winter I regained my putting stroke by practicing one hour every day. Now I use a soft carbon putter there and am back to putting very well now.

I hope this makes sense to you. LOL =) Maverick

BTW, I sure miss those fast greens, up to 10+.

Why not get a heavier putter for the slower greens? I am pretty sure I saw a piece on inside the PGA tour several years ago with Len Mattice and he was speaking about how he switches putters based on head weight depending on the speed of the greens. He was using two Odyssey putters to illustrate the difference in the distance with the same stroke.

Might be something to think about. Heavier putter for slower greens, should allow you to stroke it the same and achieve similar results. Faster greens, use the putter that you currently put well with on there.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, just another idea to throw out there.

Don't go looking for hot faces in your clubs. Look how much trouble it caused Tiger.

I actually believe it to be the complete opposite, though I believe both thoughts have plenty of reputable backers. Slower greens/Lighter putter , faster greens/heavier putter. I had always felt that way, however, David Edel talked about it in his industry chat and explained why that is... something to do with the way that hands sense the weight.... really hope I'm quoting David correctly as it's a little early. Either way, I highly recommend checking it out when the transcript gets posted!

If I recall correctly, David gave a great drill to determine weight on a daily basis if you have adjustable weight putters, or use lead tape, etc.... Put out a string at 10 feet or so and stroke a few putts at what you feel would roll the ball that distance. If you're consistently long, then try adding a little weight and roll a few more.

actually DRG, lighter works better for slower greens.......heavier for faster greens.......at least for me.

KTB...Sounds like you have already tried it. I was just throwing another idea out there.

JCB...Great info. I was just passing along something that I had seen a while back. I am sure that theories have changed and there are proponents on either side of the coin and Edel's idea makes sense to me now the more I think about it. Find the optimum weight to disengage the smaller wrist muscles and possibly engage the larger muscles to reduce twitching, more pendulum, consistency, etc. Plus he has dedicated his life to his craft and I am sure done tons of research on figuring out how to best maximize a putter for an individual.

Anyhow thanks for pointing it out.

It's not the putter, it's how you are visualizing the putt. You are probably just focusing on the line and not thinking about the distance. When you read the putt, try to see the ball rolling along your line right over the top of the hole and stopping just beyond. Or practice with a tee in the ground about 18 inches past the hole and try to hit the ball just to the tee. Once you start visualizing the ball rolling to the hole at the proper speed you'll start hitting your putts there.

TM Spiders with AGSI+. They have 2° of loft and they have a super solid feel. I always hit them too long. You can cheaply play with weighting too.
