Why are Mizuno standard lies so flat?

I just noticed this as I researched irons to buy. MP-32 is generally 1.5* flatter than Titleist 690MB. The spread is even bigger with the MP-30 (about 2.5* for the mid to long irons). For some reason Mizuno decided to make the MP-32 more upright than the MP-30.. weird considering better players who would prefer the MP-32 to the MP-30 typically play with flatter lies.

Anybody else notice this? Anybody know why? Tough to make comparisons since there's no real standard. You'd have to play the MP-30 at almost +3* to be similar to the 690MB.

I thought Japanese iron specs are generally 2* flatter and .25 shorter than US standard?

Lowrider hit it dead on. Believe it or not, it IS because the Japanese, as a whole, are shorted and smaller people.

Because Japanese are shorter... 

 

I had to increase the length of my Comp EZ 1", on the other hand, my new NIKE almost fit me standard, just 1º upright Lie...

I've always heard Mizuno irons were "flat" because they are based on older lie angles, not the new modern ones. My local pro suggested that Mizuno never changed to the modern lie angles over the last couple of decades.

I'm 5'9" (not short, not tall) and have been fitted several times. Each time the specs equate to Mizuno standard lie angles. I currently play Ping irons with the red lie angle, 1 degree flat.

Then it sounds as if Mizuno is made for you -- I am .5 inches over in length and go 1-2 deg up in Mizu based on their current specs.

Me too and I'm 6' 4" tall

I have all my Mizuno irons & wedges done 2° upright and ½" longer.
