Top Flite Gamer Question

Best ball under $25 question?
Target has the Top Flite Gamer for $13. I've heard a lot of great things about them, but that dimple in dimple thing seems gimicky, and I can't get past the fact that they are Top Flite. Anyone else feel the same of used them before?

Secondly, I'm kind of in the $25/ ideally under $20 range, the most expensive ball I've had is the Bridgestone e5, which is a great ball by the way. The only reason I tried those though is because i won a dozen at work. I've been wanting to try out the Srixon Soft Feel. Something about Srixon (maybe the Jim Furyk connection) has me really liking them. I know the NXT and Burner are also in that category. So what is the best ball for under $25, or even $20? I know a lot of you have higher standards of ball, but hopefully you can still shed some light. I'm not quite at the point in my game of paying 45 or even 35 for a dozen golf balls, I don't know if I ever will lol.

I haven't tried the gamer v2, but I wasn't really impressed by the original.... for $13 a dozen, they're not bad, but not great. I would even go with the top flite d2 feels over the original gamer. My top balls under $20 would be the nike power soft (green box), srixon soft feel, and the tm burner (red box, one of my favorites all around). The precept u-tri tour is a great ball that can be found at walmart or target still.

You could also look into lostgolfballs.com. With the websites, you can typically get balls for 50-60% less than retail for top grade and they perform just like new.

The original gamer is a very good ball for the money. Does well in all facets of the game. I have not played the gamer V2 but i am sure it isn't any worse. You can also look for the wilson 50 or preferably the wilson zip. The zip has very good spin on short clubs and I found it to be more than adequate with the driver distance. The new Titleist DT So/Lo's are 20 a dozen, the Srixon AD333 is a great ball and also 20 a dozen. Lots of good options out there. If i were you i'd find a pro shop that sells sleeves and buy 4 different ones and see if that helps make a decision. good luck.

Don't know if you like the 2 piece balls, but i really like the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo balls. I recently bought 6 dozen of them at the United Golf Show in Ft Wayne, Ind. for $14.00 a doz. I'm sure they're on closeout here or there. Then I got an email notice from Rock Bottom Golf on some closeout balls and bought 6 dozen Pinnacle Platinum Feel balls ( very similar to the Cally Diab) for $10 a doz. plus 6 bucks shipping. I love the distance and both balls have pretty good feel around and on the greens IMO, and both balls have a really good site line printed on them for help lining up putts.

I picked up a dozen at Target yesterday. I 've played the original Gamer and the only problem I had with it was durability. I also play a lot of courses that if you're a little offline you're in native areas so an inexpensive ball with some decent performence is a good thing. Hopefully the new V2 is more durable than the original, even so at a tad over a buck a ball it's a great deal.

I really wanted to like this ball I played with the D2 Feel for a while back in 2007 since I wasn't playing very much and liked the low compression feel and actually wanted to avoid spin around the green since my contact wasn't all that consistent. Then in 2008-2009 I did quite a bit of testing with the gamer comparing it to other balls, but it really came up as a compromise ball. It was decent in the long game, but lacked performance from 60 yards and in much like all other suryln spin balls and that cover, I would take chunks out with my 10 year old worn down V-grooves.

It is an okay ball, probably better than the NXT-tour (which in my opinion is a really crappy ball). If you want performance I would go out an get a urethane ball on sale (Taylor made TPs, Callaway Tour I, Ix, 56, Z-stars were on for 2 for 46$ here in Canada earlier this year).

I would definitely play the D2 feel over the gamer

imho, the best non-urethane ball for under $25/doz is either the Srixon Trispeed or Wilson C:25. however, you can always find deals for older model urethane tour balls for under $25/doz. it depends upon what playing characteristics you require. urethane will always give you the most greenside spin, but not everyone wants that much spin out of their golf ball.

I've played the Gamer V2,Wilson C:25 and the 2010 Srixon Trispeed (not Tour)
all in the past 30 days.they are all good balls have played well with all of them.

At $20.00 per dozen the V2 cannot(IMO) be beat.It stops on the green ok(as good as NXT Tour) and is fairly long off my driver and quite long off my irons.Putting is good also.

Wilson C:25 stops on the green the best of this bunch.OK long and soft feeling off irons.Biggest drawback to the Wilson is for many people you will need to order them online and have to pay shipping which of course runs up the cost.

If Wilson would get these balls in more retail stores so people would have better access then this ball would be more attractive to me.

The Trispeed 2010 version(not for sure what if any difference from last years ball) is very long and soft off all clubs and straight off driver and stops on the green as well as the V2 but maybe not as good as the Wilson. The Trispeed best feature for me is the it putts very, very well.

The Trispeed's biggest drawback is that it will run about $10.00 more than the V2 but I think for my game I will pay the $10.00 extra and use the Trispeed.

But going back the the orignal question if you want to stay in the $20.00ish range i pretty sure you will not beat the Gamer V2

i actually liked the D2 Feel better than both Gamers. the Game V2 was definitely better than the original, which i didn't like at all. the V2 spun more and was much more durable.

but the D2 Feel feels better to me in every way, plus its cheaper and you get 3 more balls.
