WOODS

Driver: Titleist 983E, 8.5 degrees, 441/2 inches, Fujikura SIX graphite shaft. Fairway woods: I've played the Sonartec TRC 3-wood and the TaylorMade Retro Spoon. I also alternate between a Cleveland 1-iron and a 19-degree TaylorMade Retro Raylor.

IRONS

Cleveland TA1, 3-iron through 9-iron, True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 steel shafts, swingweight between D-2 and D-3. I alternate between two sets, but I've played a version of these blades since they were called the Byron Nelson model years ago.

WEDGES

My pitching wedge is a 47-degree Cleveland 588 GunMetal. Same as my 56-degree sand wedge and 60-degree lob wedge. I like to grind some of the bounce out of the 60-degree model for tight lies around the green. I'll change the bounce angle from about 8 degrees to 2 or 3 degrees.

How does something wind up in my golf bag? For starters, it's a feel thing before I even think about putting something new into play, even just in a practice round. The right equipment is all about consistency under pressure. The shots have to happen on the golf course. It doesn't really make a difference if it works on the range, because if it doesn't perform the same way every time on the course, I'll look for something else. I'll keep something in my bag forever if I trust it. That's why I've played a version of these Cleveland irons since way back when. The opposite is true, too. I looked for a 3-wood for more than three years. I played with stuff couldn't hit. Now, I've got it. Of course, I still tinker. I don't like to change, but I know there's always something better out there. That's why I switched to the Pro V1x golf ball. I added 15 yards in one day. So change can be good, too.

MARKER

I carry a Philippine coin I got from a fan early in my career. It was his good-luck charm when he was in the armed forces invading Grenada. It's the first thing I move into my new bag. I also use a dime and a special marker honoring Don Shevorski, Cleveland's tour rep, who passed away last year.

LUCKY 13

My lucky number is 13, and my lucky day is Friday the 13th. With everybody thinking about bad luck that day, there's always going to be good karma floating around. I put a decal with the tour's logo for its charitable efforts on the bottom of my bag.

GOING IT ALONE

I might be the only guy out here using a TearDrop brand putter. It's a customized model that I've been using the past two years.

PRIDE ON THE INSIDE

I've got a C-Thru grip on my putter with a University of Wisconsin logo on it. (I went to the University of Hartford on a golf scholarship, but Madison, Wis., is my home). I like the grips because they feel better. I may switch all my grips to C-Thru.
