Putting drills, videos, books?

I certainly feel for your situation. When I got serious about trying to be a better putter, I actually read several books and took a little bit from each of them. Dave Pelz's Putting Bible, Stan Utley's The Art of Putting, and Dr. Bob Rotella's Putting Out of Your Mind. All of these books have drills that you can do. Like I said, I was able to pick up something from each book and apply it to my game. I personally don't think there is one magic solution (other than practice) to fix putting woes.

The best piece of advice I can offer (and I got this from Dr. Bob) is to putt like you don't care if it goes in. It never fails.

If you can find a SAM putting analysis system nearby that may help.

I had try on one and it tells you a lot about your stroke.

I have had putting issues as well and wiyhou addressing the technical deficiency in your stroke it is difficult to make improvement.

I have you tried videoing your putting stroke to see what it looks like.

I feel for ya....I go back and forth with some good putting and then bad...I've had some success with the belly putter the past few years, but early this year I wasn't even doing well with that. I qualified for the Carolina Mid-Am, shot 78, but had 5 three putts. At the tournament, I had 9 three putts the first two days (the greens did really suck tho), and missed the cut by one.....Came back home and went back to what has helped me that past few years....

Just reading stuff on his site has helped alot....the problem is I just forget a lot of stuff and get too mechanical and make it to complicated. I really need to order his e-book....I've been rolling the ball much better again....


I was a good putter when I first learned the game at around 10 years old. As I got better at hitting the ball, my putting got worse, at 16 I was a basket case. I remember having 41 putts in a tournament that summer and shooting 84, and I went into the proshop, bought a new Ping, and changed everything about my putting, grip, stance, ball position, arms....Had 28 putts the next day...Can't really explain it, but I putted pretty decent for years and years after that.....Then about 10 years ago, just lost it. I got Pelz book, and got worse....Its almost like I have had to relearn putting all over again......

I'm definitely guilty of not spending enough time on the practice green, I get bored really quick. Hopefully some of the books/sites will have some drills to keep me interested.


Maybe I should use today as an excuse to get a new putter I've never really loved my putter (SC studio style)

If you have a buddy to putt with, make up some games, play a putting match for quarters or lunch. That ought to make it more interesting and fun.

Like the others have mentioned...Rotella is pretty good I also read Zen putting and Rotella just came out with Putting like a genius. I agree with Doc " putt like you don't care if you make it......seems to work for me.

Here is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me...I bought a BELLY putter and played for a week with it. That was three years ago and I bring it to the practice green with me every practice session but havent brought it on the course for actual play since.

I used to putt like i was drunk, it was embarrassing. I posted a simlar post and people recommended a putting arc and the boomarang putting system. I got them and my putting has improved by leaps and bounds and is now the strongest part of my game. Got them both very cheap on ebay. Saw an almost immediate impact. Hang in there.

Best advice -------- it matters not what "style" you putt. What matters you do it the same each and every time. Develop a routine and setup. Draw a line on the ball and use the routine/setup to get to the point you can roll that line end over end nearly every time. After that it is all speed and line.

Belly putter. Get it long enough to anchor to the xiphoid process (between belly and chest). The game has never been easier. Takes a while to get used to, well worth the effort... Yes! Natalie is my favorite, 46" and I'm 6'0 average build.
