Mizuno MX-23 vs MP60

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy some new irons pretty soon and was wondering how much less forgiving the MP-60's are when compared to the MX-23's??
I'm currently playing MX-17's but I feel that my ball striking and general ability has improved to the point
where I can start to look at a more aesthetically pleasing iron (thinner top line etc) and was thinking about
going for the MX-23's as they appeared to be a natural progression from the MX-17's but I really love the
look of the MP-60's and was wondering how much less forgiving they would be when compared to the MX-23's??
If anyone has some experience of these 2 irons their findings would be much appreciated.

I've owned the 17's and 23's and played a demo round with the 60's in addition to hitting demo 60 6 irons several times. Short answer - the 60's are phenominal but IMO you need a really solid and consistant iron swing to play these.

I loved the 17's and switched to the 23's solely because I wanted to try a Mizuno forging, the 23's feel incredible but they are not as forgiving as the 17's. I've played the 23's for about 3 months and I believe they'll be in the bag for a long time, but I'd be very happy to play the 17's again and I'll acquire another set if I'm not hitting the 23's as well as I hit the 17's by the end of this summer. I tried alot of different OEM cast cavity backs and the 17's are easily my favorite. After playing the 60's it was clear to me that my swing had to be in top form, I'm roughly a 15 handicap and as my game stands now I believe I could only hit the 60 long irons (3-6) well maybe 1 out of every 3 shots. A 23/60 combo set might be a good option but you'll probably need to have the lofts tweaked because the 23's are stronger. The 60's are clearly among the best player's clubs available, just be sure your swing can hold up with them because they are definitely not as forgiving as the 23's and in a completely different realm than the 17's. If you don't have to sell the 17's to fund a new purchase keep the 17's just in case, my iron play got better with the 17's also and I don't think the improvement was necessarily coincidental, the 17's are the easiest irons to hit well that I've ever tried.

I have been playing golf for 18 months - broke a 100 after 6 months (MX 23's) and I play off 24. On impulse a bought a set of MP60's off ebay and went for a custom fit (Precision Golf at Egham) with both sets of irons a month ago - based on the launch monitor and their observations I switched over to the MP60's (new nippon 1050GH stiff shafts, pured, 1/4 " longer and slightly bigger grip). In the last month I have played to handicap almost every game and yesterday broke 90 (87 strokes, par 71, 44 points). Now the MP60's cant take all of the credit, I practice my short game and work a lot on alignment. However, I have been striking the ball well for months and I am convinced that all it needed was some decent tools in my hand. The clubs look great, feel great and hit the ball magnificantly.
