Compare Srixon i-506 and J33 Combos

I'm looking for something that is a touch more forgiving then the J33 Combo's I have in the bag. I love the sole grind on the J33's so the i-506's are very appealing. Anyone info would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone know the offset specs on the i-506 (Srixon site doest not list them)?

i have the 506's...there isn't much offset.. and they are fairly forgiving.. having said that i've never hit the j33 to have a direct comparison

Unfortunately the site does not list the offset specs. Only says minimal offset in the description which could can easily vary from one manufacture to the next.

i 506 are true player's cavity back irons with a bit of game improvement built in. I thought they were pretty forgiving for player's cavity back. they felt very good to me. You just have to figure out which shaft you want to play in i 506.

If you get both the i-506 and J33 in your hands, you'll see that the 506 are bigger and have more of a cavity. I chose them for the very reason your asking - forgiveness. They are quite forgiving on offcenter hits. But you still have to be a crisp ball striker because of the leading edge. They have very little offset, which I like, and a very sharp leading edge. If you have a steep angle into the ball and don't catch ball first, you will lay sod all over the course and the ball will go about 30 yards. If you like the sole grind on the J33 combo, then you probably WON'T like the the 506 grind. The J33 combos have relief on the leading edge which keeps them from digging. Not so on the 506.

I went with the PX shafts at first and then swapped them out for the Nippons. Just personal preference there.

Thanks for the post! This is the exact info I am seeking. I really like the sole grind on the J33 because they help with digging and they are so easy to get through the rough. I find them very versatile. I hit the J33's fairly well but it is that one shot out of no where that is killing me. They do not seem to be very forgiving when hit towards the heel.

I put both through their paces this spring and put the 506's in my main bag (i have the J33 combos for sale here, but liked 'em enough to consider putting them in my backup bag if they don't sell for what I'm asking).

The 506 to me are more forgiving, with no real loss to me of ability to work the ball to the extent that I do (I'm a 14 index but I like to play some shots - within reason - and esp. like to control the trajectory of my shots).

The 506's are bulkier - esp. from the sole view - but from the top I don't think that they appear significantly bulkier than the J33's. I posted pics. somewhere on this site of the comparison of the soles.

The 506's hit the ball higher in the short irons than the combos, and maybe a little higher in the long irons. However, the 506 lofts are strong (I think 2* on average stronger than the Combos), so I find myself playing a lot more knockdowns to control trajectory without really giving up yardage that in my mind I expect from any particular club.

If you are a high ball hitter, you might not love the 506's, esp. in the short irons. I find the combo of S300 and this head to give me the trajectories I want generally, though. (of course, if you're a high ball hitter you might not want the combos either, and might be better off looking at the J33 cavity backs - which are a good looking club).

In term of looks - about even. The 506's are a little happy for me in the cavity design, but it works, so I'll forgive it. The older i-302's might be a little better looking /plainer. The Combos are good looking, though the J33 cavity backs are better looking. They are look great at setup, which is all that really matters.

 

What was wrong with Project X? I've wondered what it was like with i 506...

I had the PX 5.5 and while I did like the accuracy in the short irons, they were just a tad too stiff for me in my long irons, so I swapped them out. I had the choice of going with the PX HL in my long irons, but I switched to the Nippons because I just like the feeling of how they load, and the impact feeling.

Who are you guys ordering with? Site sponsor? The few online places I checked want $699 with s300 with no upgrade option.
