Iomic Putter Grips - Cons?

i have a black iomic putter grip on my bettinardi. nothing special at all. i was expecting it to feel like the iomic sticky grips (i.e the ones for your irons) but no dice. it feels just like a regular pingman grip or the black "dancing" cameron grip.

at the end of the day, i wouldn't go out of my way to get another one. i think the best grip is the red cameron cord (before they they get old and slick - which is fast).

Keep in mind that those who say they are a waste of money, simply didn't care for the grip...not that they are a poor grip. I happen to love them, and have a pretty firm knowledge of how they compare to other grips on the market. Those complaining of the sharp edges are correct, but that is for the regular and midsize grips. The large size does not have the sharp edges, and is my favorite grip made. Remember that these grips run small due to their original intended market being Asian golfers. Thus the regular is slightly smaller than a traditional grip, the midsize is quite a bit smaller than any other midsize on the market (but it is larger than an American regular grip), and the large is equal in size to a Winn or Golfpride midsize grip. The feel is excellent IMO, as I don't care much for the squishy feel of the Winn grips. And a corded grip, for me, takes away the feel. The advantage to these is that they are extremely smooth, and they provide the greatest amount of contact with your fingers with the flat surface...hence the feel. They are quite tacky, as evidenced by one of the principal complaints...it picks up dirt, grass, etc. if you lay it down on the ground. Fortuntely, they're a breeze to clean...just wipe it down with a damp cloth. It does not have the same feel as the pingman grip IMO...it is much more "gummy" and smooth.

True cons:

1. the paint fill in the Iomic lettering does come off easiliy
2. they run smaller than expected (if you're an educated buyer, then I don't consider this an issue)
3. the regular and midsize have sharp edges on the front of the grip

I don't consider cost a con because I find them to be well worth the money, but that's just me.

It's the best putter grip I've used, if that means anything.

Not sure why they are vital for a putter but certainly for the necessary very light grip of the hands in Longdrive competitions nothing beats them. The only way to get a decent sized woods / irons' grip is to buy the Sticky 2.3 Midsize. The co. is extremely poor on stock control, and difficult to communicate with, and the only 2.3s presently in the world appear to be on USA eBay.

The downsides are that they are very soft and so wear out quickly. Ideally they need seperate tubes within the golf bag. I tend to wrap one width of electrical tape around the badly chaffed butt end.

The other downside is that if you use the very small standard size you may require multiple layers of undertape. These can cause a lumpy uneven finish to the grip unless one either rolls out the finished grip on a hard table top or do something easier:

Except for the final layer of undertape use 'Duck' tape. If you do not have that product in the USA then let me describe it; It is the type of tape which a mechanic would wrap around a leaking rubber vehicle hose as a temporary repair. Five layers of Duck tape = 8 layers of undertape. Cheaper imitations of Duck tape eg. 'Duct' tape tend to be thinner.

I have their "oversize" or large putter grip which is comparable to most manufacturer's midsize. My last putter grip was an old Royal smooth midsize and it stayed on my putter for 15 years. I went through several before I found the Iomic and I am very pleased. I get the feeling so far that it will be very durable and stay on my putter for a very long time. I think I paid around $16 for it which seems like a good investment for my 40 year old blade and should certainly be no big deal when you consider what some players pay for their "studio" putters.

If you lay it on the ground it will pick up glass blades, sand, and dirt like a magnet. Need a moist towel to give it a good wipe. no complaints otherwise. I love it for my asian hands.

This is the only major con I can think of. I carry my bag, so don't tend to leave my putter on the ground often but it still seems to attract a lot of sand/grit in my bag between greens. I don't even really understand where this all this stuff comes from as I'm considered to be a borderline mental case for the fanatical way I keep all of my stuff clean. Perhaps I should consider it a "pro" as it porbably helps keeping the bottom of my bag clean wink.gif

I love mine. THE ONLY PUTTER GRIP I WILL USE.

I have several, and find the qaulity very very good.

I have bought them off ebay and from the website direct and have had 0 issues.

They wipe clean easily and last a lot longer than a pingman or cameron grip.

cost wise, i am quite comfortable spending a couple dollars more on a grip that will last and always feel good after a quick wipe with my towel.

I like everything about these grips, except the hard edges (which have been mentioned previously in this thread), which are an absolute killer for me. It's not as noticeable in the smallest grip they have, but I prefer the size of the medium. So it's just not a good fit. If they ever make a medium-sized grip with softer edges, I'm in!

KD, did you try the Large yet? Jay puts the larges on the Mills sometimes...have one on my Ming...they're awesome. Much softer edges all around.

I haven't. I'd kind of assumed they'd be too big, and I didn't realize they were a different shape. I'll give on a try.

They're actually the same size as the Winn midsize grips. I posted a topic on the comparison a while back and measured them both out at several points in the grip. The Iomic Large = Winn midsize. Shoot me a PM if you want me to grab one or two for you.
