Hole in One - Won a new car!

First "hi" to all members. Great site and this is my first post. I am not trying to brag but had to tell that my golf club hosted its 56th annual 3 day Okefenokee Invitational Golf Tournament at the Okefenokee Golf Club in Waycross (Blackshear), GA. Our local Chevrolet dealership sponsored the hole in contest with a 2006 Chevrolet HHR as the prize. Well, on the final day, Sunday, June 18, I had just made a 30 footer for par on hole 13 and had the honors on the par three contest hole 14. The hole was playing 167 yards down hill and slightly down wind. I selected my Ping Eye 3+ seven iron and hit a solid shot just left of the pin. We saw it kick right and disappear. One of my 3 playing partners (competitor) stated "that might be in the hole". Vision was not good in the pin area of the green. We proceeded to the hole after all had hit and did not see my ball. I remained at the cart while Sean went to check it out. He pointed down at the hole and exclaimed, "it's in the hole!". A kind of a low key guy but needless to say a celebration proceeded. Along with my playing partners we had non playing witnesses. The down side is that it was customary in the past for the new car chance to be good only on Frday and Saturday of the tournament. I thought if only I had made that one of the two days prior. After completing the round we headed to the score table and the news begin to spread quick. The club's general manager came out and said he heard I had a hole in one on #14. After I replied he said, "you win the car". I said I thought it was only for the first two days, and he replied, no, it was sponsored for all three days. I thought I was going to pass out. I became somewhat of an instant celebrity immediately.

I played in an outing last week and the father of the woman who invited me got a hole in one...but they didn't do a car this year!

Poor guy, it was his first one, too, and all he got was a hearty handshake.

Congratulations on your hole-in-one and your fine prize. My business partner just did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. He won a Chevy Impala, but opted for the cash instead.

At the beginning of the year the USGA changed the rules regarding hole-in-one prizes. If I remember correctly he won't lose amateur status.
