SAT vs Tournament

Recommended Posts

How important is the timing of the SAT test
We missed the registration deadline for June 5th and would have to go on stand-by. On the same weekend, there is a great tournament that gets the winner inside the rope at a pro tournament.

This is the junior year, so can the SAT wait til the fall or is it urgently important to get it one done.

I think answering the following questions will give you your answer. I haven't taken them for many years so maybe the way things are done have changed.

But, I think that the SAT scores submitted are the best for each section. They might avg them now.

If they avg them than its probably best to only take them once and studying until August September Oct would be good.

What do you need to get into your top school of choice within reason.

What are your chances of winning the tournament?

Are pros you want to watch going to be at the tournament?

Would you be able to go to the Tournament on Thursday and Friday and get a similar experience?

Can you volunteer for the tournament? You might be able to carry a scoreboard.

Also, what happens if you don't get off the wait list? Do they take the money or put it towards another test.

IMO SAT's and college are more important than a golf tournament. Both Woods and Mickelson went to college before turning Pro.

I took the SATs twice, and once was during the fall of my Senior year. I don't foresee it being a problem. That said, SATs > non-major junior tournament.

Agreed. I took the ACT, not the SAT, but it's the same concept.

I didn't take the ACT until October of my Senior year. You should be just fine.

I think this only applies if he is a good test taker, and isn't concerned about his score.

Let me tell you a couple of different stories.

I knew a kid in high school that got a 1590 on the SAT and took it again. I don't know why but its good to have that option available.

I recently worked with a kid who goes to Penn Law (Top 14 law school) the first time he took the LSAT (law school SAT) he did terrible. Luckily, he had taken them early enough that he could study and retake them. He improved enough to put himself in a position to apply to schools like Penn, Georgetown, Harvard.

When I was in school I took the SAT twice and the ACT once. (might be wrong about that) But in order to do so, I had to take the SAT during my junior year. I mean while these are not Grad School exams. They do influence the amount of scholarships one gets (assuming your not going to get one playing golf) also where they can go, and how early they find out.

I just applied to law school did really well on the LSAT and got wait listed at half the schools I applied to. I read something like Duke undergrad had 5000 undergrads on there waitlist this past year.

I mean golf is great, standing inside the ropes is as well but, a quality education will most likely result in something more beneficial, and getting a quality education has never been more difficult to obtain in my opinion.

Yeah, I guess it also depends on what type of school he's trying to go to.

and how smart he is. that probably matters the most, aside from how good at golf he is. I mean are you really going to get a golf scholarship, and no merit based ones? If so, play the tournament, but if your counting on walking on, and get merit based aid, you should take the SAT.

Penn Law? Took the LSAT twice?! Applied to georgetown and harvard?!?! Sounds like my brother. Are you a Sidley Austin guy?

Take the test. I took the ACT my junior year and in my senior year. I was able to use the score from my junior year to apply for scholarships early on in my senior year while my other classmates were still waiting to take the test. Taking it early will open up many more scholarship opportunities if you are interested. It's also a big weight off your shoulders taking it early and not waiting until the last minute and hoping you get a good score. There will be many more golf tournaments.
