Eye 2+ are the best of the best IMO. PING engineers took the best qualities of the Eye2 and made it better. For an iron to be a staple on all the tours 20+ years after its debut says it all.
The new Anser forged look to be pretty amazing.

No doubt that the eye2's were the most popular iron ever and ahead of their time. The thing I didn't like about them was the amount of offset in the short irons. It seemed like progressive offset in irons came within the last 10-12 years.

Longevity proves Eye/Eye2+ is best ever Ping design.

yes, Eye 2/+ with a modern shaft cannot be beat for the recreational golfer. One of the few sets that the wedges are as good as the irons, you can have a smooth transition all the way to lob wedge. And by smooth transition I mean the 3/4 iron is as easy to hit as the wedges. Just fantastic top to bottom, and very affordable. Fantastic club.

I would second the i5's. I have had a couple of sets of these. Now, I am approaching 40, my swing has changed and slowed a bit. I just picked up a set of i5's with WRX DGR300's...the R300's help keep the ball down with the i5 head. It is a great combination.

1. i5
2. i3 and eye2
3. S58's

Play the same setup and has been the best of the PINGs that i have played. turn 41 next week and the R300 are great.

If Pings were any good, there would be more winners playing Pings on the PGA. Callaway irons rule the roost.

lol nice. there's a few guys on tour now that have been there for years and if you check the witb pics week after week they have the same i5, i3 blades, eye 2, etc. wait didnt bubba just win with s59s?

Those cally guys just put the newest cally iron in the bag. The Ping players are playing their holy grail, and the cally guys are waiting for callaway to make something worthy of the title holy grail. Phil Mickelson would shoot in the 50's with i5's and you know it. :smilie_ping:

I bought some TM R7's in 2007 instead of i5's (I was torn between the two). As I got better (and a set of Bridgstone GC Mids in between), I made the move to Ping this March.
However, instead of buying the new i15's, I ordered the i5's with KBS Tour shafts.
I will never look back. These are the best irons out there whether you are a 2 or a 20.

If the thread is about the best performing Ping irons of all time, rather than nostalgia (i.e. it was a great iron for its time), then for me it is the S-58's with zz-65 shafts, hands down.

Adams Super Hybrid XTD 17*
Mizuno JPX-900 Hybrid 21*

If we are all agreeing its between the Eye 2+ and the i5, I would go for the Eye 2+. The main difference being the steel shaft. The Ping Eye 2+ came in the KTM or JZ steel which most people could play. The i5 steel shaft CS Lite was a terrible shaft that so many on this site, including me, have stated ballooned their golf ball. Sure if you had the same Dynamic Gold shaft in both irons and then compared, I would still go for the Eye 2+ as their wedges are much better.
