How do I find out exactly what I need to have done?

Pretty simple question really. How do I find out exactly what length, lie, weight I need? I'm pretty sure I need a putter a little shorter than standard 35" but I don't know if I need a half inch or a full inch chopped off. I also need it flattert than 71* but don't know if I need it bent 1 or 2*.

Anyone know how I can find out?

Easy answer, find a putter fitter / instructor with a SAM PuttLab. The latest version of SAM 2010 has a complete putter fitting module but a fitter using a SAM will be able to show you all the parameters of your putter stroke and from there make suggestions to make the appropriate changes to either your putter or your putter and stroke.

NW Chicago? Me? I need a driver when I come to your town. LOL

The SAM web site lists 4 locations in IL with SAM PuttLabs. I would rather let you pick where you go as I'm not personally aquainted with any of them. Find one that speaks your language even if it means having to travel a bit. I guarantee you'll find it worth the time and effort.

Good suggestion but there isn't a SAM lab near my. What else can I do?

So if I go to one of these and get fit for a putter, can I go with a blank slate? As in, have no preference if I want a mallet/blade/whatever putter and they'll totally fit me for something? After that, what's next? Will they give me a few options of what I can choose if I want to maybe get a mallet and a blade made for me? Next question then, who do I have make a putter for me, one of the Machine guys? Dave Edel? Can I just call them up with some specs on a sheet after the fitting and have me make them one?

Sorry for the 20 ?'s, but obviously I've never had a putter fitting before. Strange...I know exactly how I want my irons, but ZERO clue how I want my putter, which is the most important club in the bag.

The putter makers you mentioned are both great. They can build anything that you spec to them of course. As you are in Chicago why not work locally and go to Studio B at Bettinardi?

At present Studio B is equiped with an older proprietary system that is laser based and works well. They are a great place to start.

You can also contact Green to Tee Golf Academy as I've forgotten about them. They have an older SAM but can be of service to you in Glencoe.
