Pinnacle Exception

Guest

Recommended Posts

Guys, I'm new on this forum and needed to post my thoughts on Golf balls.

I was playing Srixon Z-star and found I had run out and picked up a nice pinnacle exception.

I then proceeded to hit only irons on this round and found myself clubbing down at least one club on every shot!

I hit my 6 iron 240 yds and my 52 145 yds! I couldn't believe it. Then I went back to the Z-star and hit everything way too short! I didn't realise a ball could make so much difference!

I know the Pinnacle will not stop like the Z-star but I the higher the loft of club I take the better I guess.

I also hit all my shots really clean and they felt wonderfull. Although this may have nothing to do with the ball

Yeah not bragging just didn't realise the difference a ball can make. The 6 iron was wind assisted! :-)

Your 240yd 6i was "wind" assisted? Did you mean to say "gale force wind" assisted?

I have actually played the ball since it came out, but I have nothing more to share with someone who claims he hits a 6-iron 240 yards...Get real!

I maybe new to this forum but have been playing golf for a fair few years. Only now really got the golf bug.
I don't talk rubbish. I'm 6'3" 14 stone and bench 100kg I normally hit the 6 iron about 200 yds
It was wind assisted and we have not had rain for a while here in the UK so the fairways are really hard. It was miles past where I have normally hit the ball and found this particular ball just flew.
I was only wondering if other people had similar sorts of differences with balls? Guess I never really realised there was much worth worrying about over the hard distance balls compared to the soft bite ones. I'm a changed man!
Oh and if people hit a PW that far then whats all the fuss about?

Hey man, if you say you hit it that far then im sure you can. If you can hit it 200 under normal conditions, then its not totally unbelievable that you could hit it 240 with the conditions you mentioned. I do have one question though, is your 6i bent 7* strong?
;)

Seriously though...how does the ball react on the greens?

I personally love this ball to death but they can be tough to find in stores anymore. I once bought a big box of 100+ of these off ebay a few years ago for like $50, played with them for years and loved them! Almost like a ProV1 knockoff. I play Noodle Long & Soft anymore though, But if I can find some Exceptions at a decent price I will snatch them up.

14 Stone= 196 lbs
100kg= 220 lbs

Not huge numbers by todays standards at all but i guess it's not all that crazy to hit a 6 iron 200+ yds .. I'm 5'9" ,220 lbs, bench 385 lbs at 10% bodyfat and i hit a 6 iron about 180-185. I don't think how much u bench press has all that much to do with how far u can hit a golf ball either. Swing tempo, rythym and solid contact and fundementals make up a golf swing not pure strength. Never played in the UK before but here in Las Vegas in the summer the ground is really hard and the ball goes a long way after it hits that fairway and gets going and it can get pretty windy here too( not uncommon for 20-40 mph), but i've never hit a 240 yd 6 iron.. I'm just sayin..!!

Oh and when he said that is not uncommon for people on here to hit a 240 yd PW he was being very sarcastic..!!! LOL..!!!

The regulars on this forums just get a lot of people talking about how far they can hit the ball (thus the "240 yard PW"), so your claim was met with a bit of understandable skepticism. I've definitely played in conditions where wind + hard fairway could add 33% to the distance of your irons, so even a usual 180 yard 6-iron might end up at 240. That said, I'd be surprised if a ball could be responsible for 40 yards on its own. Ok actually I'm pretty sure its impossible. Still, if I'm playing in a scramble and want a ball to play last from the tee, this sounds like a good candidate; huge distance and no remorse if it ends up deep in the woods :D

I also play the Exception a lot, in my opinion it is the best value ball out there. I will often pick up three dozen logo balls at Golfsmith for about a $1 a ball. But Pinnacle has discontinued this one, they essentially replaced it with the Pinnacle Platinum feel - very similar, but not the exact same ball. If you can find them in stores, they are usually selling at clearance prices.

Note that the Platinum Feel only lasted a season or so and then Pinnacle decided to combine the features of the Platinum Feel and Platinum Distance and created the Dimension ball. I haven't played that one yet, but I am sure it is better than the rocks they have known to produce in the past. For those that do not know, the same makers of Titleist balls make Pinnacle balls (Acushnet).
