I went to my local course today, and after a couple of holes we joined up with these two guys. Both of the guys were from Sweden. One was 6 ft. 10!!! He was huge. He asked if we wanted to join us and of course we said yea. It was Jonas Jerebko. He starts on the Detroit Pistons. Nice guy, good golfer, he kills the ball.

Cool story... I used to live in Sacramento and had a run-in with Bobby Jackson of the Kings. I was working at an aquarium store in Granite Bay and this guy pulls up in a sweet BMW so I stare out the window and check the car out. Then I realize that the guy in the driver's seat is kinda giving me a dirty look, so I look away really quickly. I look back and he's walking into the store and as he walks in he says, "You gotta problem, bro?!" I was kind of confused because he looked familiar and was being slightly rude. I said, "No, but can I help you find something?" That was the wrong response, apparently. He started yelling and cussing about me being disrespectful and asking if I knew who he was and whatever. I was kinda creeped out and asked him politely to leave the store. He responded with some more choice words as he left. I had no clue who he was until the guy I was working with started cracking up and told me that the guy that just cussed me out was Bobby Jackson.

Needless to say, I'm still not that big of a basketball fan. Especially not of Bobby Jackson.

I went to my club yesterday and pulled up to the tee with another guy and we paired up. He was prety tall and had some serious game. After a while he mentioned he just got back from playing in a tournament at Liberty National. I asked how he got into it and he said Joe Namath invited him. So, how do you know Joe Namath? Then he tells me he played Pro basketball for the San Antonio Spurs for 14 years. I explain to him that I know nothing of basketball. Looked him up later and the guy is famous. He was inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame, had his #44 jersey retired by the Spurs and was named to the NBA's 50 Greatest Players. Gervin was ranked #45 on SLAM Magazine's Top 50 NBA Players of All Time in 2009. Heck of a cool guy and hope to pair up with him again...

That dude is cool as a fan. He is about as well known for how cool he is and his "off the court" accomplishments as his play.

Bump, thought i’d add in since it has been a decade that Jonas had just purchased a mini-mansion that was on springdale, which I honestly thought was a fun 9 hole track, anyway to discuss that I may have cursed his career is weird, yet possible, all I remember was hitting my new 3w on #8 and hitting the green 2putt birdie (downhill 275-80) yard par 4 ob right. Par on nine which is a 450 yard par 4 (quite an array of holes for this 9 hole track). Coincidence? Idk

some of these guys will literally play course on our level and practice without telling their buddies so that when they actually play with their nba friends at country clubs and the other, they actually play real well.

I’ve had mixed results playing with famous athletes. Jay Bilas was a super nice guy, pretty decent golfer, and I ran into him later that week and he remembered me and introduced me to his wife, etc. And I hate, and I mean hate with a passion, anybody associated with Duke basketball (except now Jay Bilas).

Tim Brown, of Notre Dame, Heisman, and Raiders fame, was on the other hand mostly unpleasant. He wasn’t a jerk necessarily, but he clearly wanted to be somewhere else. He is a really solid golfer and murders the ball. But he had a chance to make some people’s day and build his fanbase, and let’s just say he didn’t accomplish that objective.

Played (All in South FLorida) with Robert Smith (Ohio State/ Vikings), Cornelius Bennett (Alabama/Falcons) and LT..Lawrence Taylor (NC/Giants) all different times.

Robert was a very nice, polite guy. Intelligent and nice game. Cornelius i have played with several times and he is also a very nice and personable guy. Loves golf but a little wild off the tee. We both went to college in Alabama (Me Alabama Birmingham) so we got along well. LT is a good golfer but no fun at all...very angry guy and lots of cursing, He hits the ball far but zero fun to be around or play with.

... I have played in Chicago for 35 years and never seen a Bear on a golf course let alone get paired up with one. Then I spent last winter in Phoenix and on the first tee at Papago I get paired up with Desmond Clark. Maybe 2 months later and again at Papago, I get paired up with Marquis Wilson. Both really good dudes.

I'm sure I've told this story before, but back in 1998 I was working as a stock broker in downtown Chicago. I had a client who I had never met in person, we did all of our business over the phone, who was an avid golfer. I said we should play one day, and he agreed. I got us a tee time at a public course in LaGrange, IL called Timber Trails. It was nothing special, and it no longer exists.

I meet him on the putting green, we check in with the starter, and he tells us we are on the tee, and if he gets another 2-some, he will pair us up. So, we're waiting for the first fairway to clear, and a cart is heading to the tee. It has two guys in it, and one of them says the starter said they should join us. Both of the guys were pretty big. I go over to the passenger side nd introduce myself. The guy in the seat looks up and says, "Bo Jackson, nice to meet you." His buddy was a cop in a neighboring suburb.

Bo was retired from baseball, but still lived in the Chicago area, and did some work for the White Sox. He was not very good golfer back then, but he was really a good guy. Oh yeah, me and my client won a beer from them!
