and surronding areas.
Some great deals in Tulsa now that we are starting to lose great weather to golf.. I know Emerald Falls as well as Cheorkee hills has a special for Twlight for only $30 with cart/range balls. I usually go out as a single and play , but would love to join up with some fellow WRX'ers. Anyone interested in playing ? post here or message me. I usually forget to check this area of the boards.

I took off work to play Emerald Falls yesterday. It was in fantastic shape; the greens were very fast. I am up for golf almost any time. I also like Clary Fields, White Hawk and LaFortune. I also have been looking for an "in" to Southern Hills. I have been working on it for three years with no luck.

^^^ I "thought' I had an in for Southern hills.. of course it fell thru.. Now I might have one for the "Patriot" in Owasso, which I heard was Amazing..

By the way, Lafortune Just posted their 2011 Men's League Tournament schedule. this will be my 3rd year playing.. A lot of fun. Anyone in the Tulsa area looking for a league to play in for competitive golf, I would say give them a look. Not that expeinsive and well ran tournaments.

Away from Tulsa for school, and every time I go home I wish I would've stayed. Worked at Meadowbrook for a couple years in HS, and always liked playing there. Haven't played Forest Ridge since the new greens, but really like all the public courses in the area. EF is good. Have heard nothing but the best about The Patriot. Hope to play Southern Hills this summer.

Still looking for playing partners? I just took up the game a little over a year ago, and recently moved to Tulsa from Las Vegas, looking for ppl to play with in the area

[/quote]We joined Golf Club of Oklahoma a couple of months ago. We are very happy with our decision. No tee times, membership limited to 350 and the mens locker/grill/lounge area is fantastic. Even the wife loves the place and is happy that they moved up the women's tees quite a bit to give them a fighting chance.

Brettasaurus,

How is the crowd on Saturday morning? Can you get an early time or is it a lottery? Have thought several times about joining, but never have. This year maybe the right time. Any idea how long it takes to get to downtown from there? Do you have any kids that play golf? If so, how's the junior stuff ... specifically for beginner juniors?

... wow that turned into a lot more questions than I thought there would be.

any thoughts/discussion would be great to hear. Congrats on joining a great golf course.

This Saturday was busy because it was 65 degrees but there are no tee times, ever. You just show up and play. I have yet to have to wait more than a few minutes to tee off. Saturday morning is the busiest time but there just have not been any issues no matter which day or time I've been. We shall see come May and June if that changes.

I work downtown and live next to Forest Ridge and from my house to the Golf Club is 10 minutes. I jump on the Creek and get off at County Line Rd. Downtown is tricky only because of the crazy traffic on the BA to 169. I think it's actually quicker to go BA to Creek, even though it is further. I have done the BA to Creek and it takes 30 minutes from downtown. Much of that is the slow BA out of downtown. I also drive fast.

The course is phenomenal. The food is excellent and they take really good care of members. I bought a cart cover and heater for the winter and they just leave it on and it becomes my cart. I don't have to worry about taking it on and off. The greens have been fast but well maintained over the winter. The mens locker room is enormous.

I don't know about the junior stuff, sorry. I did read in the weekly newsletter that they were having junior camps all winter. There is a heated range with grass stall for winter lessons and practice, which is nice. I highly recommend that you check it out. If you do join then tell them I recommended you and I get a bonus. I'll buy you lunch a few times. I hope you do join, it's a great club.

Thanks for info 'saurus. I may look you up, if I start seriously investigating membership.

Can I ask you how you might compare it to other clubs in the area?

I think it's the best club for the money. We also looked at Meadowbrook but the Golf Club is much nicer with better facilities. The course is also much more challenging and unique, IMHO. Cedar Ridge is very nice with comparable amenities but it is much more expensive. Tulsa Country Club and The Oaks were too far from where we live so we didn't tour them. Indian Springs has two courses and the River Course is a nice track but Golf Club is much nicer.

I think what separates the GCOK is that it's secluded with zero houses around the course. I like that it's set away from the city. Parts of the back 9 that play around Lake Kadashan are so beautiful and picturesque that you stop and just admire the view. Also, the clubhouse is unbeatable. It's worth the tour just to see where you will be hanging out before and after rounds. The food is excellent and Ross is right. The mens grill is like a giant man cave.

We also looked at Forest Ridge and Emerald Falls and, while I like both, I don't see paying almost as much per month for a semi-private club that requires me to make tee times. I love just being able to show up and play as few or as many holes as I want to play. I can even take a full lunch after 9 holes then finish at my leisure.

I will say that the GCOK is a tough course. I don't think it's unfair, just very stout. The shortest par 3s are in the 160 yard range. There is lots of elevation changes and false fronts on fast, tricky greens. Ricky Ross is a 5-6 and he thought it was tough. I feel like it's a good course to sharpen my skills and keep me challenged.

I will PM you my number and you can shoot me a text sometime. I can give you Tracy's number and she can send you all the info. I know the current promotions only last until they get to 350 members, then it's closed again.

I played Saturday and Sunday. Took a two hour breakfast break when the skies opened at about 9:45 on Saturday. I have been cursing my RBZ FW for most of the winter and played with an X-Hot 3 wood demo on Saturday. On 14 at the Golf Club I had 257 into the green with a slight headwind and put my shot to about 10 feet from the front of the green. Even with the "made for" shaft it is a mid launch monster. It's also much easier to hit off the deck than the RBZ.

I'm playing in a tournament at Karsten Creek in June. Anybody have any suggestions or recommendations for Karsten? This will be my first round out there. I also have a tournament at Meadowbrook in May so I may need to get out there for a practice round or two. Any members want to play sometime? I can play out there on weekdays because of reciprocity with GCOK but I can't ever seem to get a weekday that I can take off.

Good luck with that RR. You just hate Callaway and you know it. I'm down for a round anytime we can get it set up. I'm ready for the weather to be nice for awhile.

You never got those Hex Blacks that they owe you? That is crappy! I need to come in to hit some FWs on the monitor. I am not impressed with the RBZ S2, the Adams Super LS or the Anser. The Callaways, Nike Covert, G25 and the 913 are still possibilities. I came by GG on Easter but you were closed.

Veering the topic a little here ... I heard Cherokee Hills aerated early this week.

Anyone have a feel for how the greens will be by Sunday? do they overseed the fairways there?

Thanks,

How were the greens? I've only played Cherokee Hills twice and I liked the track but it was in the summer and brutally hot. The Golf Club aerated two weeks ago and the greens are getting back to being perfect again. I can't wait for everything to green up because I am tired oh hitting off brown stuff.

I had fun playing with Ricky Ross and mission_scratch. I played like crap but it was a beautiful day to skip work and hit the course. Seeing RR hit that shot on 17 into that lake breeze was impressive. We should try and do a local WRX game at least once per month. Everybody is welcome to come play The Golf Club but I can't do anything about the guest fee. Emerald Falls is always a good option and I like Forest Ridge too.

Who has played Karsten Creek and what is your report? I am playing there on May 16th and have no experience other than looking at the website.
