New vs old B330S

Anyone tried both?
Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone out there (probably south of my home of Chicago) has had a chance to try the newest (2011) version of the Bridgestone B330-S. From what I've seen in the new press releases for the ball, it's softer than it's predecessor, with a bit more spin, off of both drivers & wedges. As for me personally, I have been playing the 2010 version of the B330 S and like it quite a bit. Strictly by numbers, I ought to be playing the RX (driver SS of 98-102 mph, avg 100) but I found it to be a bit too "springy" off the driver. It was longer than any other tour level ball I've played, but I couldn't keep it in play.

Switched to the B330S in late summer and whaddya know, started hitting fairways and shooting a string of rounds in the 70s. Whatever distance I lost off the driver was negligible;
it was still longer than any other tour ball i tried except the RX. Best of all, it stayed in play. Good enough spin off of wedges - I don't rely heavily on spin in my short game; nor do I struggle with unplanned/unwanted spin. Felt soft off the putter too. If it helps - my
driver dist in the 260-280 range with 100 mph SS, 6I about 165-170, 5.7 index.

Now from what I've heard, this new B330S is supposed to spin more and not be as long.
As a relatively new member of the single digit hcp club, I'm realizing quickly that most people of my hcp level are quite a bit longer than me off the tee and I'm thinking I shouldn't be giving up distance if I can help it. I'm thinking of ignoring my incorrigible tendency to
want the latest & greatest and instead buy as many of the old B330S as I can find, for 10-12$ less per dozen, no less.

So what are people's experiences with this new B330S? I'm especially interested to hear
from people that have tried others in the bridgestone line. I've even thought about the new B330 - the old one was a total rock off of my driver, but I heard the new one is more playable for a guy like me with a more pedestrian SS. Leaning towards the old B330S but ready to hear others' experiences and suggestions...

I found it to be just as long, slightly higher ball flight than last year as well. I might have needed the spin, as I think I've gotten a better swing, AND with my driver head and shaft combo, I've dropped a ton of spin.

The cover feels softer than the last years, but not much more than normal. Notice that it checked up quicker with the shorter pitches. Feels softer to putt with too, kinda like the RXS, which I liked.

All in all, I think it's a good ball, B330-S's are a staple in my ball hoard.

Oh good topic. I also found I hit it a bit higher myself. Not a fan of the higher flight, but i'm sure plenty of other chaps will like that.

While higher, I found it to be pretty darn similar to the new ProV1x.

I liked the softer feel of the ball, still that hot feeling that you get when nutt one, though.

Will be interested to see how the ball lasts, considering the softer ball, I'd assume it would scuff worse. Bridgestone is really good about making a durable ball.

I've played the 330s since they were introduced and think the '10 was the best model they've made. If the '11's fly higher and spin more than their predecessors, I'll have to pass.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Is it fair to say that the 2011 spins more, flies higher, and is slightly shorter than 2010?

Ehh.. Yes and no. They do fly slightly higher, but like I said, in my case, I could use the extra lauch angle with my set up. Others can't.

It does spin more, and since it flies higher off my driver, I assume it spins more off the driver( could be wrong ).

Shorter, probably not. I think they are close to the same, but hard to judge without hard numbers. The ball feels softer and sounds softer. I feel like I can compress it more, which gives me more spin.

Give a sleeve a try if you can. The 2010 model is a great ball though. I have a few dozen stacked up especially at the 29.99 price point!!

Can anyone comment on if the 2011 B330 would be a kind in between the 2010 B330 and B330s? I personally love the B330 off the tee, but would love a little more spin into the greens and a softer feel chipping and putting.

I played the new B300 this fall and found it to be longer than last years model. It was too cold to judge the spin, but I am a med-high ball player and didn't notice much difference. There are a lot of posts indicating an increase in spin, but the same distance as last years.. Give the B330 a spin (he he he) you will like what you see.:clapping::clapping:
