Design looks identical to the X protos. Unless this is a set made for a Callaway Pro to market their new brands ala Tiger woods and the VR blades. I believe I remember hearing his irons weren't OTR.

Freakin' RAZR name is crap! :russian_roulette:

I agree especially on such a beautiful set of clubs such as the x-protos. They are the X-protos rebadged.

Hope they come to retail because I missed the boat on the Proto's and they are getting harder and harder to find LH. Want to do a combo set with my 09 X-Forged, but yea, not a huge fan of the Razr badge on there by any means. Oh well, I don't spend much time looking at the back of the club anyways, as long as they perform, not a huge deal.

I know it's a rebadge, but I would personally rather see "prototype" instead of "muscleback" printed on the back of my irons.

it's very tacky looking.

And in my honest opinion...what's the point of even making this iron?

Just continuing the line...and re-badging to make it look juicier. Just looks poopier to me unfortunately.

These will just make the Prototypes more expensive. Quick poll what would you prefer your clubs to say RAZR or PROTOTYPE? (quickly counts hands...) Not one person for RAZR. They should have called it FRAISER and had the delightful Kelsey Grammer counsel you through your fear of OB posts on the right hand side as you play.

N.B. Poll may not be 100% accurate or real...

Yeah, for some reason, even though the base design is unchanged, only the stamps and badging, it doesn't look as good any longer.

Hmmm... guess I need to keep my set forever now...

who cares what golf clubs are called... just seems stupid to me to care.. they could be called s-sticks for all i care.. just as long as they are good. if it makes any difference on whether your clubs say proto or razr you're a poser. game what it is good and what works for you, you dont write the name of your clubs on the score card....... get over it

The name no longer fits the product. They're not a Prototype anymore imo. I think Cally is realizing that the term Prototype is widely overused in the golf world.

I kinda like the name, as it ties them in to the rest of their iron offerings. It also dates them which it not a bad thing to the consumer.

And at least they aren't marketing them like Nike's VR. I think it's pretty cheesy in that Nike has named their whole current line of products after a red shirt worn on Sundays.

... Unfortunately we are living in the age of Ganstah Rap. The immature prefer style over substance. As an example, baseball hats have the brim bent to protect your eyes from the sun or the lights. A flat brim defeats the purpose and wearing the flat brim it slightly askew is even more purposeless but you stylin baby. WHAT?!?!?!?!? Oh the hat over the ears makes it more difficult to hear but dam boyee iz big and matches my 22's baby. It's about ear rings, watches and necklaces, even in sports where they can get in your way! So you are wasting your breath talkin about what the actual function is or how a tool works and looks to the working eye at address. Screw dat, iz da back ah da club yo. Who cares how it performs if it says "muscleback" instead of "prototype" wid da wrong colah paintfill and it doan pass the look at me test. "You can deal wid diss or you can deal wid dat" is the current audience, not the guy looking to go from an 8 to a 5. It's not how you play the game, it's how you look doing it... sigh.

Actually I am glad that all they did was change the stamps on the irons at least the X-Proto's aren't screwed up like the Razor X Forged. Be thankful the original design is still intact, smart move Callaway.

This is a very good point. Thanks. The 2009 X-Forged was a great line.

Agreed. Too many people are too into looks and image and brand name when it comes to their equipment. These people are also the ones who need to fork up the cash to upgrade every time a manufacturer comes out with a new fandangled club touting miracles every 6 months. Just because you use $1500 blades forged in the fires of Mt. Fuji and $399 space shuttle composite drivers and $300 James Cameron Avatar studio putters won't make you a better golfer...just a golfer who spent way too much on his equipment. Whatever gets the ball in tho hole no matter what brand club you have or how it looks.
But I guess if you are going to spend all that money it may as well be something that looks good to you. Oh yeah Callaway has made bad decisions in the looks department of their equipment lately.
