compression vs swing speed vs distance

just trying to un-confuse myself.
low compression (80-90) are for slower swingers.. for faster swingers, they will max out the distance on these balls.
high compression (100+) are for faster swingers. that faster swingers will maximize the compression and therefore be able to hit these balls the max distance

do i have the jist of it correct?

lets say i have a 105 swing speed. and I normally play the tp red ldp. lets say my drives go 275. if i switch to a lower compression ball like the Noodle, even though I swing 105, it will go less than 275... even though the noodle is "supposed" to be a long distance ball, i assume this is aimed at the slower swing speed players.

damn, i think i just confused myself again writing this!

It gets complicated, and there is no correct answer that will suit / fit every player type, nor every ball. However you have the basic understanding down.
A balls construction and Spin also has much to do with its performance and flight, not just the balls compression.
A softer ball will generally have a higher trajectory than a harder ball.... however that doesn't always mean shorter distance. (wind conditions, ect...) Also a players angle of attack comes into play in these calculations as well.
Weather conditions, mostly temperature, also figure in.

What Cornbread said has allot of merit to it. I think it is somewhat subjective, case in point me. I have about a 107mph clubhead speed and will use a B330 RXS most of the season. The B330 RXS is designed for less than 105mph head speed but I actually hit it farther than the B330s I normally play. One other benefit to the RXS is it feels remarkably similar to the old wound balls I used to play. Purely subjective but my opinion.

the lower the compression the less swing speed it'll take to max out the distance...too much ss and it could be shorter...the higher a compression the more ss it'll take to max out the distance...too little ss and it could be shorter...get it?

It all just depends ...........

Seriously you are probably talking about a yard or two difference most of the time, pick the ball you like most around the green and it will help your score much more than worrying about squeezing out an extra 2-3 yards on your tee shots.

But in theory lower swing speeds do better with lower compression balls and vice versa, I read a test here or in a golf mag .....don't remember were exactly and the differences were negligble, maybe in the old days with the balata balls it made a difference but with the modern ball you are talking about minimal performance issues from my experience. I don't have a very high swing speed, but score better with a ProV1 or even the X model than any low compression ball, simply because of the short game advantages.

Interesting robot data generated a couple years ago comparing 63 different balls, at a range of swing speeds. Interestingly, some low compression balls targeted at slower swings did well at high swing speeds (Callaway HX Pearl) and vice versa (Bridgestone B330S). The data support the general theory about swing speed and compression but also shows there will be exceptions all over the place.
