I hit a 150 yard gap wedge yesterday - uphill. Close the face down a bit and it becomes a pw.

After reading all of the posts on kids saying they hit the ball far lets hear about the LONGEST hitters you have played with. I know no one will believe me but here it is. I played with a kid in a golf match two years ago named Bandon Chastain and he is a MONSTER off the tee. The second hole of my schools home club of a 165 yard par 3. So I pull out my 5 irons (is was 14 and a super short knocker back then) and I had the honor so I hit it ok to about 15 feet. Then I see him step up to the ball and hit it about pin high to the right. So, out of couriosity I look at his bag to see what he hit and it was and he was hitting GAP WEDGE! I could not believe it! I mean the kid shot 42 I think but a 165 GAP WEDGE! WOW!

Being that long with the irons is probably a disadvantage. Everything under 135-140 would be a partial shot. Distance control would be a problem, and any fades/draws would magnify into slices/hooks. Am I close?

For some reason, the distance someone hits an "iron" has never impressed me, nor do I really care - Anyone can deloft a club at impact and hit it further...In addition, there are so many other factors - All carry? Downhill? etc. etc. - Like, Pitch, I would be more impressed if he shot 32 rather than 42...

yea can we say he shuts the face down like a mutha the first hole at the first tee chesterfield par 3 155 he hit sand wedge or gap but........

the funny part is he looks like a wilder beast

i hit a what must of been a 290 yard pw but i skulled it hit a metal pole beside the cart shed and it proceeded to shoot down the road

and i shot a 44

edit: this was on a 137 yard par 3

392 yard drive. take into consideration hes 6 foot 4 and the hole was downhill

Adam Ichikawa....he literally hits driver on average 340...3 wood close to 290. very long kid. about 5 foot 10...guys rips the ball. and ya, he can play too....I have heard that he recently got a letter in the mail from Titleist and UNLV......oh ya, he's gonna be a sophmore in high school this year. Crazy long.

when he was a sophmore in highschool he hit 5 iron 250 and driver over 375 twice in a round. I first played with him when he was 11, and he hit 5 of his drives over 300 then, but other than him, i have not played with anyone who has hit the ball further than myself off the tee.

Playing with my bro puts whatever notions I have of myself being long right back into place. 4th hole, 540 yards, drive and 8 iron. 6th hole, 450 yards, drive and sand wedge. Thank God he can't putt or I'd never beat him........

i know this kid who just turned 16 and is swinging the club at 130mph played with him last week and he hit driver then sand wedge into a 460meter par5. yeh he made eagle stuk it to six feet......but i also saw him make 2 11's at a tourney, when he misses he misses a looooong way wide.

I wouldn't want to hit a gap wedge 160 because then you'd always have to be screwing around with half swings and stuff or carry like a 64* lob wedge.

well i have played with some long kids, but i am not to short, i entered the mizuno long drive comp at the london golf show and i was the last person to hit (because i am lefthanded they had to move everything around) i was hitting it pure, i entered some par 3 challange and hit a 6 iron 210 yards lol, but ye bak to the long drive, i had to beat 260 in the under 16s and the over 16s was 303 yards, i felt confident, i have never really looked at my distances, until now. i hit my first ball and i swear i hit it sssoooo good but the machine didnt get the infomation!! so i stepped up to the next one thinking lose grip rip it! so i swing and as soon as i hit it i thought argh that was crap, but anyway the machine got the distance, 298 yards, stuffed the under 16s and was second in the over 16s!! yer anyway i have played with one kid who hits a 1 iron around the 270 mark, bloody long is he!!

My friend who is going to play college golf hits a 3 wood over our net consistently which is around 260 carry but he is 6 ' 4 " Ive also seen him hit 3 iron over a couple times

Scott something, I forget his last name, but I was in a skills competition and he won by 13 yards with a 3 wood. He hit a 287 yard 3 wood; his first driver was past the end of the range (330 yards) but it was outside of the "fairway" so he hit his 3 wood instead; 287 and the next closest was 274 with driver. I've seen scores and he can shoot low. He's a 70s shooter.

Also, I once saw him hit 3 iron into a 250 yard uphill par 4. Most kids were trying to bomb driver down there (uphill into the wind), and there he was with a 3 iron. Unbelievable.

Not a kid any more but Kevin Chappell(sp?) out of Southern California was crazy long. Longest kid I saw at the Jr Am a few years back.

Down here in NZ a 16 year old kid from another club in my town won the NZ Remax long drive qualifier...... in the open division. Free trip to Vegas. Lucky so and so

For me distance with irons doesn't count, because the lofts are so diffrent and the material determits the distance. The only thing, that matters in distance is the clubhead speed. Then all you have to do is hit a fitted driver on the sweetspot.

Justin Walker, played with him and he drove a 336 yard par 4, and went driver 7 iron on a 550 yard par 5. he shot 65 that day.

longest drive ive seen in person is like a 330 drive by my uncle Bill last summer......i was really amazed.....

well....my dad in 5'9" and i'm only 5' and i drive it just as far as him.......we both drive about 240 consistantly........but he always beats me by like 3 or 4 strokes.....

hitting far irons doesn't really impress me, because they will hit 8 iron as far as my 5 iron because they shut the face, and then i outdrive them with my driver. Yesterday i hit a 350 bomb on a flat no wind 380 yard hole. the kids i was playing with we 90 yards behind me.

its really funny reading all these posts b/c everyone brags how long they are..but the question is, can they play?? Im avg. about 275 off the tee, not long, but consistently straight. I played with a kid who was a soph. in college and only hit it ~240, but straight and ripped the course apart

My longest recorded drive was 335. Hard fairways in the summer.

longest kid would have to be a kid from my team moving onto san diego state named Gerardo Poras......I played with him in a match and he drove over a green on a 340 yard par 4........played torrey north with him and he hit 3 wood to 40 yards out on the 430 yard 13th hole......but the longest ever would have to be a tie between one of my golf instructors devin and a guy that I play wit from the spanos tour Jeremy Tucker........They both sit on the range (given it is down hill and down wind sometimes0 but they sonsistintley hit it into the parking lot at the end of the range wich is 350 carry..........wind or not 350 carry is crazy

Andrew Bowdish, I was playing with this beast a couple years ago & on the first tee he hit it past me by a couple yards. My ss at the time was 120, the only thing is the guy hit a 2 iron. We were paired with two guys from my school against him & his teammate. We were playing an uphill par 4 & his teammate says why don't you hit a firm one. He proceeds to fly one about 390 uphill with like a 6.5* 975d shafted with an x100. Every ball took off about a foot off the ground & stayed there for about 230 yards when it just ballooned to the top of the tree line. Just ridiculous ball speeds, you don't forget something like that.
