Garmin G5 GPS or Leupold GX-2 rangefinder?

Having a hard time deciding between the two. Have no experience with either although I did have a SG5 for awhile. Never could get the yardages to lock and they seemed to drift while standing still. Also despise the annial fees, so the G5 is really my only consideration.

I play alot of courses I am familiar with, but go home back east a couple times a year and play new courses.

Is the rangefinder really that hard to hold steady and target with? I have heard both that they aren't too hard and others says you have to be super steady.

Help please!

Just got a Leupold GX-3. I wouldn't trade it for any GPS unit. I went with the GX-3 because of the red yardage readout. It is very easy to see. Sometimes the LCD readout in the GX-1/2 is not easy to see. I played a round with it and had a cart with a GPS unit. The rangefinder rarely agreed with the GPS. The rangefinder is not hard to lock onto the flag. If you have trouble you can always hold the button down and scan until you get the distance to the pin.

It is a fact that GPS is not as accurate as laser. Anyone that would disagree with that does not understand the technology.

The real question is what do you want. Accuracy or convenience? If you consistently hit it to within a couple/three yards of where you're aiming you probably want a laser. If not, the accuracy differences won't matter and you may prefer the convenience, blind shot measuring capability, and hole views of a GPS.
