Shafting a Hybrid with iron shaft

Hello wise one's!

I would like to shaft a 21 deg hyrbrid with a steel shaft. I have a Project X 5.5 one iron blank at the moment. I would love for it play a bit stiffer. Closer to 6.0 would be nice..but I'll get what i can get. :-)

My current 5 iron is 38 inch. If I use the rescue TP as a guide, the club should be 39.5 inch....which is about a 2 iron length.

If a tip it 1 1/4 as per royal precisions instructions for a 3iron, will the shaft play stiffer than 5.5? What would happen if I butt tim it to 39.75inch? Will it make play a bit stiffer too?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Eric

The tip is .370. The head weigth is around 242gms and the shaft weigth is 115gms. I would like the swingweigth around D3ish. I have a sonartec md 17 with an irod x. The hybrid will have a square to open face.

Swing Info: smooth tempo...hcp is 8ish...depends on how the putter is feeling that day. :vava:

Kind regards,

Eric

Rescue or sonartec MD has a lower design hosel compare to most iron, so your total lenght will be longer than most iron set up. PX shaft played about 1/2 flex stiffer that stated and you are setting it up at 2 iron lenght. So, Set it up and follow the precision instruction as a 1 iron set up to play it around 6.0 at 39.5". Check the swing weight see if you need some more lenght adjustment, If you do... cut it from the tip 1/2" to get the desire swing weight.

If your PX shaft is 355 tip, you can shim it w/ a coke can. Sand it up first to get a good retention w/ the epoxy. If you have to cut it from the tip 1/2", then the taper tip will fit perfectly in a 370" hosel by tipping 1/2" to it.

Good Luck!

Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info! Luckily, I was able to get my hands on a parallel tip shaft. So no shimming will be needed.

I should have stated that I wanted it closer to PX 6.0 instead of a pure 6.0, sorry about that. My conversion mistake. :vava:

To get it to a 6.5 (PX6.0), would I tip it to a 2 iron length as per RP instructions?

The bore depth is 30mm. Will that depth have an affect the stiffness?

Kind regards,

Eric

Bore depth will effect very little IMO.

1' tipping is equal to 0.5 flex on a paralel tip shaft.

Good Luck!
