Help me pick my two new wedges

Recommended Posts

I am going to a new wedge configuration, and am going with a 52* and 58* setup. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the TM RAC Blacks or the CG10 Black Pearls. I would have included the Spin Milled Vokeys, but since they don't have a 52*, they are out because I want both of them to match. What is the wear like on the black finishes? Will it last? The CG10's feel great, and I have not tried the RAC's yet. I see the CMM of the CG10 was forged and the RACs were cast. I don't want to put the money up for Y cutters, so I am going retail. What are your thoughts on these two? (CG10 vs. Rac) One thing that enters my mind. On tour, where wedges are probably last to be pay for play, Rac is third behind Titleist and Cleveland. Are Vokeys and Clev that much better? With all the TM staff guys, and TM throwing money around, why are there no more in play than there are? thanks for input.......

I am guessing that eople have been playing other brands for many years and TM hasnt pushed the wedges too hard. I am a TM guy and just switched to the 52 and 58 combo myself. I am playing the satin finish and couldnt be more happy. The satin will be a bit softer than the blacks IMHO. The others are good too, I just like the looks and feel of the satins. IT sounds as if the Y cutters will be coming to retail so you may want to wait for that. Otherwise The TM wedges are as good as anything I have played. :vava: ;) (cool) G

Black wedges will wear on the face and sole. This isn't a big deal in my opinion, but it might be to you. A black finish will feel softer than chrome just because the chrome finish is thicker. Most people might never notice though.

I think it's important to match your swing and home course conditions to the camber and bounce of the wedges you choose. Softer course conditions and a steep angle of attack require more bounce and a sharper leading edge, harder conditions and a shallower angle of attack will benefit from less bounce, more camber and a more rounded leading edge.

Mizuno Black Ox is what I am playing now. Yes, the black wears on the face and sole, but they are the best feeling irons out there....

Just like I say about every club that everyone ask for advice, this debate will give you a hundred options. They all make comparable wedges, you will need to go a demo some and see what feels best to you, I can never decide, thats why I have a set of all of them. Good Luck.

Good advise JHR. Every player has a diffierent opinion. The staples are the cleveland 588 series and the vokey 2oo series in my opinion.

I think that I have tried every wedge combo under the sun. I finally have 2 wedges that I love the feel and playability of, both TM RAC's 54 and 58 tour box grooves. I am not one to yank the ball back. I would like to fly it in and the stop it. Too many players have aggressive grooves, but then hit it short and suck it further back. Dont get caught up in the hype of spin grooves, unless you do not put any spin on it. Or unless you like to hit it behind the hole.

Don't understand why you don't pick a Titleist Vokey Tour Chrome Satin 52° gapwedge and a Ditty Vokey Spin Milled Satin 60° lobwedge ;)

The looks and design of the Vokey Tour Satin Chrome is almost identical to that of the Spin Milled and do you really need the Spin Milled grooves on your Gap wedge when you also consider buying the CG10's (cool)

I own a pair of Vokey Tour Satin Chrome 52°/56° and a Vokey Spin Milled Satin 60° and wouldn't want it any other way :vava: :cheesy:

They look so much like each other that I have to read on the sole of my 60° Spin Milled to pick it from my bag every time.

You could also consider buying the forged Mizuno MAP T Black Nickel wedges - they have great spin and look awesome and don't wear as fast as the older Mizuno Black Oxe and the Vokey Black Nickel.

Alternatively you could wait for the Taylor Made retail Y Cutters and the Mizuno MP T Satin Chrome wedges ;)
