wedge bounce

what's good or beneficial, or what
'Got a question that's probably been around before, but I wanted to know what bounce is good for wedges. I know it's pretty player specific, and maybe what degree wedge one uses, but I wanted to know what degree bounce is generally good for a wedge. It made sense to me a lower bounce just because the rest of the irons are with a low bounce, but on the other hand the bounce isn't really utilized until you open up the club face. I know there are some technical guys out here, so I just wanted everyone's opinions so next time I buy a wedge I'll be more informed in making my decision. FYI I like to use a standard 56 degree wedge (currently 56-10), and am thinking of getting a lob wedge, oh and I'm more of a sweeper hitter clipping the grass, but not really taking much of a divot.

Main thing that went into my wedge purchases was versatility between my 54 and 60. And thought long and hard about the conditions I plan on playing a majority of the time. I would suggest, to make it simple and not overthink it, a mid to high bounce for the club you plan on using out of the rough or sand, and a low to mid bounce for the club you plan on using more out of the fairway. For most this is a 54-56 with a mid to high bounce, and a 60 with low to mid bounce. A good player can always open up to add more bounce, or close the face up and put it back in the stance and eliminate some or most of the bounce. I am the opposite to above, and use my 60 out of the sand or rough. It is very personal and the only way to find out is to play and see what your preferences are, OR just buy the wedge and know going into your round what you plan on using that wedge for. Either you let your game dictate the wedges you buy. Or buy the wedges and let them eventually dictate how you will use them. I think 1 is the better option, but a good player can adapt to their setup expeccially if they dont have one really set in stone.

Also, dont get caught up with numbers because each company has different number scales for bounce. a 10 for cleveland might not be a 10 for mizuno, titleist, etc..

Like most have said, it is pretty dependent upon playing conditions and what kind of swing you have. The grinds can get pretty intricate too if you look into them. I am a driver/digger, so I prefer high bounce on full wedge shots, but love the versatility of a low bounce 60 around the green for laying a wedge wide open and cutting through thick rough. A high bounce wedge is great for fluffy sand shots, but can be a nightmare if the traps you play are hard, compact, or washed out at times. A lot of personal preference.

I haven't found a grind that perfectly fits my game, so I carry two 60 degree wedges, one with 10 degrees of bounce and a C grind. The other has a fuller flange and only 6 degrees of bounce. The two couldn't play more differently and they are the exact same brand of wedge.

I'd say it has more to do with turf and sand conditions, but that's just me!

when it's super dry and packed like concrete, I like low bounce. when it's soft or wet, I love my high bounce setup.
