Hybrid and Iron same loft same bag...

Is anyone doing this???
I was wondering if any of you are carrying an iron and hybrid with the same loft in your bag? I currently have a sizable gap between my 4 iron and 3 hybrid. I hit my hybrid further as it my favorite club in the bag. I am thinking about carrying a "normal" 3 iron to cover this gap but it seems a bit redundant to have 2 clubs with the same loft in my bag. Anybody out there doing this?? Thanks

I did for a while, but when I look at how hybrids have evolved over the last few years, it seems to me that the definitions have changed. What now makes a 2 Hybrid or a 3 Hybrid used to be a different stated club. I don't know if I am explaining this clearly, but a 3i hybrid and a 3 iron in 2011 are not really the same. Honestly, it takes a 4i hybrid to be equal, and that's just loft, not including added forgiveness. Just my thoughts, but I have done it.

I have a 4 iron and a 4 hybrid. The hybrid is more like a 3 iron and my next club is my 18* a12 hybrid. It works for me and the distances make sense.

They are not the same loft, but I'm currently playing a 5-hybrid (TaylorMade Rescue 11, 23.5 degrees of loft) and a 5-iron (TaylorMade R9 iron, 25 degrees of loft), and the gap between those clubs is about 10 yards. It works well for me. I'm like some others, the number on the hybrid replaces the iron that is one number lower (5-hybrid replaces 4-iron, etc.).

And Adam Scott I believe does the same. I've played with Watney, it's insane how far he hits that 21 degree hybrid.

For me it all depends on the yardage gap, forget the number and go with what gives you a consistent gap. I have a 5 hybrid that I can hit about 195 and my 5i iron goes 185. Of course I will choke down on occasion and play the hybrid at shorter distances, i.e., rough, tight lies because I hit it better in those situations. Go with whatever works for you.

The 4H and the 4i (refitted with hybrid shaft) both have 22* loft. But the 4H has an inch longer shaft. Reshafted 4i goes almost as long as the 4H, it could be one or the other depending on course.

Don't worry if the two clubs are same loft- think about the distance gaps. I have a 4 iron with 20.5* loft and a hybrid with 21* but the longer shaft in the hybrid allows me to hit it about 10 yards further so it works for me. Geaux Tigers!!

Loft gapping makes no sense when we have different club heads, and its distance gapping that matters. I have only 1* from my 4H/24* to my 7W/23* but gapping is 10 meters carry like i have all the way in my bag.

Thomas Bjoern, a famous Danish PGA player even had 2 hybrids who both had 22* loft, so never mind what it looks like as loft gapping on the paper, its distance gapping that matters, nothing else.

I'm close at the moment.

My 5-iron (JPX 900 Hot Metal) has 24 degrees of loft and I hit it about 160-165 yards (I'm not super consistent with my contact quality on the 5-iron).

My JPX 900 4-hybrid is nominally a 22 but I keep it adjusted to 23 degrees. I hit it about 170 yards and quite consistently. In reality, I hit much better shots choking down 2" on the 4-hybrid to hit that 160-yard 5-iron shot.

But the 5-iron is my favorite club for punching the ball out from under trees and I also really love the ball flight I get on with the ball teed up on one of our Par 3 holes. With a middle or back hole location, that hole sets up just perfectly to fly the 5-iron a few yards on the front of the green then release up into the middle or just past. If I hit the hybrid there it sometimes fly all the way to the back of the green and other times it lands on the front and stops dead.

GIven that I only carry 13 clubs including the 5-iron and 4-hybrid, there's no reason not to keep the 5-iron just for that one tee shot and maybe a couple of punch shots. But I could drop it with no real "gap" in my bag.
