Ping S58 Iron features:

The tour-proven technology of the Ping S58 iron elevates the feel and performance of a smaller, traditional head. The ball fight and distance control preferred by players seeking to compete at the highest levels is achieved through strategic placement of the center of gravity (CG)-further back in the long irons and moved forward in the short irons.

This results in a slightly higher trajectory in the long irons and a more penetrating, controlled ball flight in the shorter irons. The dual cavity design combines with a vertical stabilizing bar to enhance feel by positioning the CG towards the center of the face.

The width of sole increases inertia and moves the clubhead smoothly through the turf and rough. A thicker cavity near the toe and a thinner cavity closer to the heel moves the center of gravity away from the hosel toward the center of the face for a solid feel. A thin top line and progressive offsets aid in alignment and inspires confidence.

Had Ping fitting today with sales rep at my club. Hit the S58 irons with both zz65 and DG shafts- I have played TM LT irons for last three years and have played really solid golf, but recently have had a power outage with my irons, especially 7-pw- My handicap varies from a 0-2 during the summer. Here is what I think about the S58's:

1- Very solid feeling at impact.

2- I was able to work the ball easily with the 7-PW-

3- Trajectory was slightly higher and there wasn't much ballooning on my blocked shots.

4- Distance was better with Ping irons compared to my TM's. (

5- My LT's were 1 degree upright and in the S58's I was black dot- Rep said irons about .5 degree upright compared to most manufacturers.

6- Have always used DG with sensicore and really liked the feel of the zz-65.

In conclusion- very solid, playable iron that looks great at address. I ordered a set and even tweaked the lofts slightly and the type of grip I wanted without adding any time to my shipment date- 7-10 days should have the irons.

Howdy, Darren From Down Under,

Yes i use the S58's , ive just changed back too PING from Callways, i would have too say and i am biased that they are the most beautiful Blade ive ever hit ! Nice spin on the Short irons and v good distance on the Long irons. I doubt i will be using anything else for quite a while, the heads feel nice their not hard , there soft which suits me and my game.

Hope this helps!

Darren

I just got a set of the S58's with CS Lite Stiff Cushin shafts. I traded up on my I5's, and I must say that I love the thinner topline and a more square face. It really promotes confidence before the swing. They even polished the sides and back of the club, giving it some "Bling, Bling".

I hit some balls this afternoon with them, and couldn't resist spreading the word about these clubs. I was really surprised at how much straighter and more penetrating the ball flight was. I can't wait to go out and navigate through the golf course with these babies tomorrow.

For anyone looking for a nice, little Christmas present for yourself, I highly recommend trying these new clubs out. I've owned a set of I3+ and I5, and the S58 is definitely a cut above these others.

They are truly SOLID!!!

PURE. I got DGS on it and they still fly a little high but not ballooning. When hit on the sweet spot, it feels as good as forged irons.

You either love the look or you don't. I happen to love it.

What can I say....you simply got great taste when it comes to irons :yahoo:  :)

I own both Miura, Mizuno and Ping irons - Cb-301, Mp-32 and S58 4-PW and I5 4-PW :cheesy:

One thing to note is that these irons will rip the ball apart. Be aware.

After these irons are used a few rounds they quit chewing up balls. These are great irons!!

IMHO, these are one of the best kept secret in the irons market.

I ended buying a set of S58 (Green Dot, +0.5", D4 SW and Gold grip) after almost two months comparing my TM RAC LT2, at the range and course (finalists), with many great different irons:

- Callaway X-Forged

- Mizuno MP-60

- Srixon I-506

- Titleist 755

- Titleist 735cm

- Ping I5

I did not even consider the Pings initially but when I thought I had the decision closed for the Titleist 735cm, I had the opportunity to demo a standard set of S58 that blew my socks off...

There are better feeling irons in the list (Mizuno MP-60 was my winner for feel) but they feel great for a cast iron and certainly were sweet enough for my taste. Where this clubs excel is in terms of forgiveness...honestly, none of the irons above were as forgiving as the S58 (not even the I5). Finally, the precision of the short irons was simply amazing.

To answer a previous question, yes they are a great choice for a 12HCP... I have a 10HCP now but looking back to previous sets of irons I played in the past (Ping I3 Blade, Mizuno MP-30 and TM RAC LT2) I honestly believe the S58 could very well suit many sub-20 HCP golfers. Specially those that don't get used to chunky heads...

My best advice: give them a try and if they suit you, get fitted and you'll enjoy them even more after every weekend.

Have a great game.

According to the MPF (playability factor by Maltby), the s58's (778) are WAY more forgiving than the X20 Tour (716), Cleveland C4's (707), TM R7's (632)... and to my big surprise, my MIZ MX23 (463), which I considered to be quite forgiving. I have yet do fully understand what this MPF has to do with the real effect on MY game, but if anyone here can shed some light on the subject...

I want a set of S58s or i10s (I am leaning towards the S58s)......the only thing I'm worried about is the low swingweight.................I like a fairly hefty iron.

I'm in the same boat as Birdie Man. I'm gonna try out both irons but might hold out on buying anything if ping is coming out with a new version of the s58. Does anyone know when/if they are coming out with them?

With Ping, swingweight is not an issue.

I ordered my set of irons with a swingweight of D4 and the wedges with D6 and D8. The head is pretty hefty and feels just fine.

The advantage with this clubs is that the swingweight can be modified with the black plugs of the cavity and not by adding weight in the tip of the shaft (that affects the center of gravity of the head) like other brands do.

You just have to specify the SW in the order or if you already got the clubs you can send them to Ping WRX to change it.

Have a great game.

Ya no crap....wiffle bat is a good analogy for sure. Yuck.

I don't know why the standard s-weights must be so low.......it wouldn't hurt people to actually give em something to pull on.

(no jokes please :D)

What if I pick up a used set on eBay.......can I still send em to PING to get those weights changed? Or do they want retail clubs only? I'm not sure how it works.

(I guess I should be asking PING but w/e)

I got trapped into hitting S 58's today as a demo, and the ZZ65 shafts and light swingweight must be to ruin us old guys..LOL  I loved them! Best Iron I have ever hit, and I am 68.

They are not a lot better than my i3 Blades, but it was nice to hit steel shafts again, somewhat like I used to.
What a great Iron set.

......gonna be hard to ignore them... :busted2:

Sorry Bird,

I did not see this reply. From what I understand if you get a set of s-58's off ebay you could send them to PING to get the weights replaced. PING told me that because it is a hit or miss / expirmentation with the weights it cost $15 a club. (you would think they have this stuff figured out and know which weights are needed for what swingweight).

But what I was talking about wiffle bats, was the combination of zz65 (which I think is a great shaft on the 59) + the swingweight of D0. I think the zz65 is 108 grams. I have DGS now at 130grams and a D2. Completely different clubs. I think the S-58 has the AWT shaft which is also a very light shaft. SO if you are going to do the EBAY route, make sure the shaft is not super light.

And from what i understand ping makes light clubs to accommodate the everyday hacker.

I been debating trying x100s, but I dont want to mess with my current set of 59s, so I have been looking at ebay too. But i think it is just too much of a pain to get a light shaft, have them reshafted, then pay another 15 a club to get the swing weight figured out. I dont know, we will see.

Oh sweet.....thanks ej.

Ya S58 with s300/400 or x100 is soundin good right about now.

BTW.....made for everyday hacker.........I could see that with the G10s but shoot.......S58 is supposed to be more of a good players' iron.

Wiffle bat...........heh........

Prolly not too bad with DG in em tho eh.

Thanks for the info. chief.
