12 degree driver.. too much loft?

Currently playing a 12 degree wilson staff spine driver with stock stiff flex shaft and hitting it consistently straight. The only issue im having with it is that im getting all carry (240) and no roll and this is costing me some distance. Is this an problem with others using a higher lofted driver? Should i look at something with less loft or what is the solution?

Depends on your capabilities. You must be using a 12 degree driver for a reason. What's your common shot shape. What made you switch to a 12 degree.

Generally, people switch to a 12 degree, either because they have problems hitting driver straight and the 12 degree helps in that area because of added backspin. Or others may switch because of a lower swing speed, they need the 12 degrees to get the ball up to the optimum launch angle. So, be honest with yourself, if you fall into one of these categories, then just be happy that you can drive it 240 down the middle.

If you hit the ball too high (moon balls) then try out some lower lofts on a trackman and get to the optimum trajectory. What you have to understand, is that everyone has a distance ceiling, you can only get so long with the clubspeed/contact you can create. If you want to get longer, try working on technique and strength/flexibility training.

Ok, here's the boring answer. The solution is to find a PGA pro and get on a launch monitor. Within 5 minutes he'll be able to determine your launch angles and what loft and flex suits your swing. Money well spent if you ask me.

I use a 12* driver myself. I swing fairly fast and have a pretty athletic swing. But something about my swing makes me launch the ball a bit low. Just trying to say that there really is no golden rule. Btw while loft sure has an impact on launch angle, I'd say that what shaft you're using is just as, if not more, important when it comes to ballflight.

Head loft has much more affect on launch angle than a shaft. You use actual head loft to get a basic launch angle you are looking for, then you can tweak it with different shafts.

Which is why all manufactures offer different loft heads as the norm instead of one single head loft with different shafts.

I initially switched to a 12 degree as i was looking to hit straighter off the tee however as ive improved lack of consistency is no longer such an issue. I will try out some lower lofts and see how that works out as i know i havent hit my distance ceiling at 240

Thanks

I used some 13 degree drivers before. I don't think its too much loft. As long as it flies straight. Distance is no 2 priority for me.

What's your swing speed, what's your ball speed? What's your launch angle? What's your spin rate? Those are the factors to determin your distance ceiling. I Swing the club around 110, I have ball speeds in the low 160's and I carry the ball roughly mid 270's with total drives 290's, flat ground at sea level. My launch angle is 12-13 and spin is 2900-3100, pretty much optimal.
