Tom Lehman's "Heinz 57" variety set of irons

  • Great pics...... I remember the thread a while back talking about it, but it's cool to see. Looks like he's about to set up camp for a while on the putting green with the two snickers, water, and putting aid. Someone needs to tell him to send that circle T for a restore and a COA though..... killing the value by apparently not using a headcover image/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Tour players could care less about a Camerons value. Tigers putter looks pretty much the same ( not quite as bad but plenty of dings ). Scotty will send him a dz new ones if he wants them.

At the Senior British open, he has an only R7 fairwood and his bag looked a lot like that but had more RAC irons blades.
  • Tom has been carrying that old cobra 2 iron for years ... quite the hodge podge

This was my first set... My college roommate was a caddy at a local TPC and built me a set of mismatched clubs. Basically put together a set of clubs from the lost and found. No two clubs matched, but it was free, and it saved me $ for important things in college, like beer, I mean books.

I remember the Wilson Fat Shaft 5 iron.... I loved that club.

I love his bag, it's incredibly cool and character driven. What I really want to know is this: Why the lead tape on an iron that can have the SW adjusted via screws? Is it to raise the CoG up and make it more workable?

  • Can someone explain Tom obviously playing old grooves? Are we to assume they have been recut?

This might be a stupid question, but if he wants to put a bag like that in play, how does he get the conforming grooves?

from the looks of things, maybe there aren't any grooves left

That Cobra iron is circa 1995? if I remember correct. Those were a sweet set of clubs back in the Cobra Norman days.

I had a bag exactly like that one time, but I was twelve and had to shop at a lot of yard sales to put it together. I can remember hitting some of my best shots with that set though. I cannot imagine looking down at every iron and seeing something different, there must be some method to his madness?

Haha I can only hope the grips are all different as well. At least in my mind they are. I'm OCD and I feel my skin itching looking at his bag. I just wanna let him borrow my backup set.

I'm currently playing a set of those Cobra blades, awesome clubs. So the idea that they are 2010 conforming has perked my interest!! Anyone know anymore? I know alot of older grooves are likely to be if tested.

Also, are we sure that it's a 2 iron and not a 1 iron? I know he used to carry the 1 iron around alot. I had a go with one and could barely get it airbourne!

I can’t tell from the pics but there could be persimmons involved here. Some of those clubs might be older than me...
