New irons

Cleveland CG2
Hey, I am 15 years old and I play to an 11 hcp. I was just wondering the experiences anyone has had with the Cleveland CG2 irons. Are they forgiving at all? Overall I am looking for a club with minmal offset but still some forgiveness. Please give some suggestions.

Currently I am playing Cobra 3100 i/h, they have too much offset, but i hit it solid every time. I think the high offset is causing me to have to adjust my swing to hit them straight which may be causing me to hit a fade with my drives. For instance, when I am driving the ball well I am usually hitting everything dead straight or with a slight draw. But when I hit my second shot it is hit solidly but a big hook. So basically I am looking for a club with minimal offset but still soem forgiveness. Give thoughts about CG2 and others.

I know that the CG4 tours have more forgiveness but I just love the way the CG2s look. Plus, A little less forgiveness will probably be good for me. I just hate the thick soles on my cobras and the offset too.

then the cg2s are for you, if you like them. I have only hit a 6 iron in GG so I couldn't tell you but I know how they play forgiveness wise.

Try the CG1 Black Pearls. I've been playing them for a while now and they are plenty forgiving as well as being everything else a blade should be. They also have slightly less offset than the standard CG1s and, IMHO, are a considerably better club. The only issue might be that they have a very narrow sole so you might want to try them on the course before buying.

Good luck.

Milo.

As I agree that the CG1 BPs are great clubs, I don't think it was his intent to switch from an extreme game improvement cavity to a blade....I personally have CG2's in the bag and love them, I am a good ball striker and know I could play blades, but they are definitely pretty darn forgiving. Give them a shot, take out a 6-7 iron out on the course and see how you hit it!

  • 3 weeks later...

I have played ta3's for 5 years and love em. tried the cg2 on the course, they felt "dead" compared to the ta3's as far as feel, misses were just as good

. played a round with the cobra CB carbons, on the screws one of the best irons i've ever hit, but, misses were too penalizing compared to the ta3's.

So, i would, as recommended above, play the cg2 on the course,

if you ar looking at new, don't pass up the adams forged set. comes with the new a1 pro 20 and 23.

and stock with TT black and gold.

hope this helps.

I tried out the Cg2s on the course. At first the were hard to hit, but then I got used to them. They are actually very forgiving. I love the decreased offset and mall head compared to my old irons. So a couple of days later I got like new CG2s on ebay for $300. The long irons are a lot easier to it than my cobras, the ball just jumps off the face.

Also, my first time using the clubs I broke 80. :drinks:

If your looking for good clubs, get the 735 cm from titleist.

I currently have 690.cb but I wish I had the 735 because when I hit them side to side, I can hit the 735's 15 yards farther and it also goes higher, and the sweet spot is right in the middle, making it easy to hit, the 690.cb have a sweet spot about a milimeter closer to the hosel so it's not as easy has the 735. Also if you can hit the cg2, a great club, get the 735's, they perform the best, also, a very similar club to cg2 are the mp 60, in terms of distance, but the feel is totally different. CG2's are solid but there are better iron sets, pm me, because I can give u a list of 15 better iron sets depending on what you are looking for.
