Winter Golf Ball Change?

Anyone go with a harder ball in the winter?
I've discovered that I prefer a bit harder ball in the winter time/colder conditions. I think it is because the cold somewhat dampens my feel and by switching to a bit harder cover with less spin, I get a bit better results......anyone else do this?

If so, what model are you using?

Titleist TSi2 10, Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore 6X, 45"

Titleist TSi2 16.5, Fujikura Ventus Red Velocore 7X, 43"

TaylorMade GAPR Mid 4, KBS

Titleist T100S, KBS C-Taper S+ 5-PW

Titleist SM8, 50F, 54S, 60D, TT S400 Custom

I usually switch to the Top Flite Gamer V2 in the colder months. Thinking of doing the same this year, or maybe go to the Srixon Q-STAR instead.

Lots of people go to much softer balls in the winter because the cold makes all balls "harder" and you can't compress a high compression ball enough in cold temperatures to get anywhere near normal distance. Cold temperatures will make a softer ball get harder, possibly to the best "hardness" for the user. A few years back the Lady Precept became all the rage for this very reason. Lots of big hitters go to Noodles, Lady Precepts, Wilson Fiftys, etc. in the winter.

My buddy gave me a sleeve of those gamers to try when it got cold and wow! I was smoking everything over the greens! I've only played prov1 or penta so I was blown seeing a 9 iron fly 160 yds. They hold the green well and feel good off the club too. It was cool playing these at first, but they really suffer around the greens so I switched back.

This winter I switched from my normal Z-Star XV to Bridgestone Treosofts. The lower compression gives me the distance I want, and the ball is surprisingly soft. Great feel off the irons and putter.

When the temperature drops below 50 I switch from the Z Star X or XV to the regular Z Star, because its softer. If I'm playing a serious, "add it into the handicap" round that is. For just a "practice" round I may play NXT Tours, or Q Stars or something like that. I still have 3 dozen brand new original Precept Laddie, I may finally use them some this winter.

+1

I always switch to a softer ball. A harder ball here in the dead of winter would be like hitting a steel ball bearing......

DT Solo (yellow) = to stony for me.

Nike Pd Soft (orange) = Very, very bright but the cover hasn't got the sticky bite feel and its very slick - no control but it doesn't scuff very easily.

Wilson DX 2, 2014 version (your Wilson Duo in the States) - Very soft, awful muddy yellow colour - get a little bit of dirt on it and its very difficult to find in the rough, doesn't glow like the rest!! Lovely feel though - like a kids bouncy ball off the face, super hot, but short game requires adjustments playing with it!!

Callaway Supersoft - Played it all winter. Soft feel, good glowing colour, long. Sticky feeling cover for control! Does scuff up though! My favourite.

Wilson DX 2 (Duo) 2015 version - the now softest compression ball at 29! Way soft and with a better glowing colour than the 2014 version i have to try it!! In white too !
