some interesting information
Spent a couple of hours in the Taylor Made Tour Van today and came away with some interesting information talking to Wade:

The one we didn't want to here---there is no difference between tour heads and retail heads in the current lineup.

Accra shafts are getting good reviews on tour. The SE80 is a board, but the SC and Tour series are top notch(he plays a T70 in his driver).

Irod shafts are well liked and their new fairway shaft is getting good reports.

For all you ShaqX fans, the Mitsubishi 85-MT is the same shaft.

Fujikura SIX is still quite popular.

They have a 1 gram weight for the R7....pretty much threads and nothing else.

I'll edit if I remember anything else.

Everybody is "good enough" for tour equipment---part of the Code of Hos(paragraph 3, subsection 2.)

I have been on the taylormade tour van alot.

And I have heard a differnt tune. There is a difference as far as the closed or open on drivers.

We know the Irons /wedges, y cutters, rescues, and fairway woods and most putters are different....................

And of course shafts are always different.....................

I don't mean this to be a bash but did you wake up from the dream yet ?

Great report.

I am a little confused though on the closed face issue on the r5 and r7 shallow. I have a few of these and they do not appear closed at all. Matter of fact the stickers on the R7s note specificlly face angle at 0 degrees

2314[/snapback]

I think his statement/problem is he has to bend the heads square as well as open, so it makes for more work for him. He has to bend every head.

I was at the same Tour Van meet Asleep, everything asleep is saying I heard as well.

Also Wade said about the Aldila Protopype, it was a board.

I going back today and see if I like the R7 retail or tour. I did not like the louder sound or the shafts they had to test yesterday.

Other Taylor made guys were getting testy about Tour verses Retail R7 TP. Yeh they started the problem. Let me hit both and I will tell you if there are the same.

If I am going to buy one, certaily the Tour would be worth more. I don't buy this stuff to make money. I buy it to use it.

I love the ProtoPype 60-X....the 70-X is more "boardy" feeling than the 60-X....I love the 60-X, but I'm also strong enough to handle it :(  !

I have a 70-X... I like it alot.. wouldn't mind trying a 60-X... I dont think the 70 is all that "boardy"

Nothing one way or the other, really....sorry. They're certainly playing them on tour, but we didn't get into them.

One other tidbit I remembered today...this I personally did not want to hear: The Taylor Made 200 Steel Smooth Top(Smoothie) fairway wood was not well received on tour. I play this and love it and I always thought it was a tour success, but no.

Do you know anything about the R510 heads? tour vs. retail?  I picked up a r510 tp (LH) on ebay and the seller said the club was tour issued, square face, better head, etc.  But, when i opened the box i swear the club face is closed.  Also, the serial number on the head tells me it is not tour issue.

Thanks

By any chance do you have any pics or did the Ebay auction have any pics? Probably should start a new thread as we have alot of highly qualified Tour TM  around here.

I totally agree with Chris, as a TM staffer I've got all tour woods & I have hit friends retail TP drivers & see no real difference to convince me otherwise. The difference to me is the face angles as I play mine 2* open, the shaft options as they only give retailers 3, & the weighting of the head. I see no difference in tour clubs except the fact we can get any custom options available to us & that I get stuff before anyone else.

obagain, only 3 woods! thats all im required to keep in the bag besides wearing their hats, using their bag, & wear adidas :rtfm: ive put my woods against the retail, besides the custom options that are available to me & being able to get stuff before everyone else there is no difference. everyones TP stuff would be the SAME as mine if they had the option to have any shaft, have any head weight, & could open or close the face angles. the only difference in tour issue stuff comes when something will not be release like the VS2, IMO its gross anyways & hit it 1 round. but if you put a retail TP to a tour TP it goes no further, these no BETTER ti & who brought that rumor out is  some good stuff & should call me to let me know how to aquire some. the difference is in the specs, not the product.

In another post I stated I can find 20 variations of any tour issue club.

Callaway is the worst to deal with as they will push clubs on you rather than letting you try them and see what you like.

I have seen a set of titleist 690 Irons made of german steel. They were sweey but the grooves didn't last very long. So I know you can send specs and they will build what you want.

I'm surprise that no one here talk about manufacturing tolerance.

And How about TM tour dept hand picked those heads and marked them one by one for the tour van batch.

They even tested the COR before they send it out to the van to make sure that their players is not gonna get DQ playing the hot face.

And 1 of the job description on the tour van is the ability to work fast to provide what the tour players need quickly, not to try to explain one by one the technical side.

Most players that come up to me said "You saw how i play and hit the club. Do what ever you think is right for me, You are the pro on putting the club together and i'm the pro on hitting the club. I don't want to hear technical issue to deep that makes my mental game become an issue. Just give me the club w/ my spec and i'll tell you how i hit them".

OEM only goes a miles for a top rank players only to provide them w/ anything they want up to the detail, however the players it self probably don't even know what they gave them in detail.

Just my 2 cents!

That is why we see so many of the guys. They Trust that we will make the changes they want.

We won't bs them, if they tell us what they want the ball to do or feel a certain way, we can make it happen.

You are right that most of the guys eyes glaze over when you start explaining why we built a club a certain way, they just want it to work.
