Nike Golf Previews Revolutionary Line of New Putters – The Unitized

BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 16, 2006) – Nike Golf’s revolutionary design and engineering will elevate the importance of touch and feel in putting to a whole new level with the introduction of its line of Unitized putters this fall. The four Unitized models, which are promising to be the most technologically advanced putters in the market, were officially unveiled by Nike Golf executives and designers at a special Unitized preview event during the PGA Championship in Chicago, IL. Nike Golf Tour athlete Paul Casey, who recently won on the PGA European Tour with a Unitized putter prototype, also attended the preview occasion.

The Unitized, which takes its name from the definition “to make a single unit,” holds the distinction of being the only putter in the marketplace that has the head and shaft designed and engineered as one piece. As such, Nike Golf’s seamless construction creates an express line straight from the putter face to the grip, with no stops along the way to interrupt frequencies between the putter head and the golfer’s hands. This delivers a pure response and unparalleled feel, a sense of touch which is further enhanced by the forged head and precision milled face. Unitized’s better feedback translates into better distance control for fewer putts.

Nike Golf is introducing four models within the Unitized putter line -- the Tiempo, Retro, Neo and the Techno. With four head designs to suit any golfer’s preference, each of the four models shares the same Unitized optimal feel technology, along with a distinctive visual differentiation that is brought about by the straighter, cleaner look of the head/shaft unit, and by the uniform black nickel plating of the head/shaft unit. I just want to state 1 simple fact that a club builder brought to my attention. We also confirmed this with Nike. Took a lot of questions but they finally caved. You guys know that the single piece only goes about 6 to 7 inches(give or take a few) above the head. There is a weld and it appears to be 1 piece. True temper has their sticker on the putter and produce the top portion of this shaft. If anyone wants to give more full details please do so. Its a great feeling putter and I have 1 but just wanted to clarify the technology.

at first I thought it was one piece, because I could not see any joints or weld marks, but the Nike website also states that the shaft and head are plated as a single unit.

Had this for 2 weeks, traded it in. It is easy to aim, practically point and click. It has good feel and puts a decent roll on the ball. The feel, and I will be the first to admit this is blasphemy almost, is as good as many Camerons. However, that being said, it is too pricey. Also, on long putts the ball would skid too much initially and/or would hop at the onset which I never had happen with any of the Camerons I have ever used. I traded it in for a TM with the AGSI insert which puts a much better roll on the ball. All in all, a good putter, and if it drops to around $120, it would be worth it, but at the price it is going for in stores, I'll pass on buying it again.

I currently have a Unitized NEO, but it's up for sale. I was in the market for a new putter and read some good things about the new Nike line. Saw it had good reviews from the 2007 Golf Digest Hot List too, so I gave it a try. The putter has amazing feel to it, pretty much just what they were looking for in this design. It's a great putter outside of the couple questionable things: 1. laser welded shaft, so it's "unitized". So why does it have a True Temper sticker on the shaft? and also 2. the head is milled from stainless steel, why is it so magnetic? But those 2 things really don't bother me, it just made me wonder now that I look back at it. In my opinion what it comes down to is the putter had too much "feel", and was throwing off my distance control. I just felt like I was barely hitting the ball and it would go right on by the hole yet. Overall I would say the putter is about an 8 out of 10 in my books. Worth the $250 retail, probably not. If you can pick one up for under $120...it might be worth a try. Other than that, it's really easy to line up and does swing quite balanced. You'll be amazed by it at first like I was, but it just didn't stay that way. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Today I found one brand new in a store, I tried it and I couldn't believe how good it was. Very soft, easy to aim and while putting from 10 ft, 4 of 5 balls went to the hole after I struggled with a few Pings and Odysseys. I loved the titanium like look. From the top it reminds me a little bit to my SC Sonoma, but this one feels nicer due to the back weights which give such a great balance although from the side it seems a bottle opener. I moved back to 20 ft and 30 ft with still brilliant results.

Price tag was horrible but due to the circumstances (phased out and US Open sale) I convinced the guy to apply a big discount so I could grab it and [b]70%[/b] was the magic number that made it the [i][b]cheapest[/b][/i] putter in the store.

Bottom line: I got a great putter that works in holes 1 to [b][color=#ff0000]19[/color][/b]
