I have played both, and in my opinion the new Hex Chrome and Black each carry a piece of the iZ.

For me the Black is similar off the tee to the iZ, yet with a softer feel and perhaps slightly less spin. Off short clubs and around the greens the Black plays like the iS, much more spin than the iZ.

Now, for me the Chrome plays like the iZ around the greens, yet with a much softer feel. Also, I find the Chrome to be similar in distance to the iZ off the driver (longer than Black for me), yet with a much softer feel than ANY Callaway to date, including the Black.

For my swing speed, around 100mph with the driver, I find the Chrome matches my game much better than the Black. Actually, I'm very close to making the Chrome my gamer for 2012.

I have played both the Hex Chrome and Black. Both are really great balls by far my favorite from Callaway. I like the Black off of short irons and the Chrome off woods is great not to much spin and goes long. Around the greens the Black has more spin but the Chrome didn't feel to that far behind. Can't go wrong with either one. They both are softer than the Tour iz I didn't really care for Callaway balls till the new Hex came out and these might kick out my Sirxon Z for these season out of the bag.

I have tried out the Hex Chrome and Black and thought that the Hex Chrome was disappointing. It lacked greenside spin and didn't seem to play like a "tour" ball should. The Hex Black is a good ball - very long and great around the greens. The tour iz never impressed me - except off the driver. The tour iz is the only "tour" golf ball I can put out farther than my Pro V1x or TP Red LDP. But that's all the iZ was good for. the Hex Black plays similar to the Pro V1x - perhaps a bit firmer feel around the greens. But a good choice nonetheless.

Am I the only one that thought the iz feels like a pinnacle around the greens?

What is a Pinnacle?

The Chrome has a little grab on chips for me, and our greens are fairly firm. I don't choose a ball based on the way it feels off the putter, but the Chrome has a softer feel when putting than the Bridgestones or the V1x, other balls I've played recently.
The Chrome has good driver distance and handles the wind well. Really hard to beat for players with ss <100 and need for adequate short game spin, and should be available under $30/dz most everyhere soon, imo.

Bought a dozen Black's last weekend. Tried the IZ last year and did not care for the feel off the driver or trajectory with irons. My favorite Callaway ball was the Tour ix, good greenside spin, very long off the tee and never ballooned. I think Callaway took a step back with the Tour IZ in terms of a viable competitor to other top line balls. Well, with the Tour Black, I think they have improved upon the IX. My trajectory with the irons was a touch higher but I never had the ballooning flight like with the IZ. Greenside spin was comparable to the IX but I thought the Black was the longest of the three balls.

Callaway has a solid release with this ball and I'll gladly pick up another dozen (or 5)...

For me the tour iz was silly long - longer than the tour ix. The ball was horrible otherwise. felt like a rock off wedges and made the clicky sound off the putter. The Hex black is a real winner in my book - not quite as long as the tour iz but not much shorter either! It has softer feel - similar to the penta or Pro V1x. Great ball.
