Prov1x Replacements

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have played the prov1x for a long time. I like the ball around and into the greens but I am looking for something with less side spinoff the driver. My driver ss is around 105. I am willing to give up a little spin around the greens in order to hit a straighter drives.

So far I am looking at the Srixon XV and the Bridgestone e6. I am worried that the e6 will be giving up too much spinning into the greens.

Does anyone ave any thoughts or oter replacements that may fit my needs?

Thanks.

I went from the prov1x to the Srixon zstar x tour yellow and never looked back. Straight as an arrow off the tee, and spins well on approach and greenside. Trust me, you wont be disappointed. The yellow seems to be more durable as well.

Callaway Hex Chrome...the 3piece ball..about $36 a dozen. Longer and straighter off the driver, a little more release on the greens soft feeling; putts very well. A little mushy off the face of irons, but you're not losing distance and it flies straighter. Cally has also solved the longevity problem.

By the same token - Titleist's Prov1/X sale ends tomorrow....and at the bulk price (about $36 per dozen) why even try other balls? :)

I was recently fitted for the Bridgestone B33-RX : http://www.bridgestonegolf.com/product/balls/tour-b330-rx

Couple rounds in and they feel bretty good. Driver ss around 102mph.

Looking at Bridgestone's site - lots of choices that seem very similar to an average eye like mine though.

For me it's not about price but trying to make hitting the fairway a little easier off the tee. I read about the hex chrome but a few people said that the lack of spin was too much. I will look into them. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am the same way about hitting fairways. I hit it a long way but i tend to get myself into some difficult spots. 20XI have helped me alot

My buddy gave me a sleeve of the new pentas today. Love em! Better than the old penta imo. AND I shot one of the best rounds of my life.

I'm a long-time ProV1X user, and I recently played a Z-Star XV ball on a par 5 and got on-in-two and made my first eagle! It was such a freaking low-penetrating drive that kept carrying and went 300, which is a good drive for me. I'm looking forward to trying this more - I like my ProV1X, but if I find something I like more I'm willing to switch.

Rocketballz!!! i played with this ball i found on the course and felt like it was prov1x evil twin brother. crazy long distance off driver. got on a par 5 in two from 260 yards out in wet cold washington weather. good spin on FULL iron shots. the only drawback is short pitch and chip shots have less spin than premium balls. i wonder how this ball will hit in summer time weather and condition. i was very impressed with this ball and i only like to play the premium performance balls......all i could think about this ball was that it reminded me of prov1x with more durability and distance. i'm really thinking of accepting the drawbacks of less spin around the greens for this ball.

I was a prov1 prov1x guy all through college golf. I was just recently looking for a ball that would spin less of the driver. I tried the NIKE 20XI X and S and love them.
+1 But Im torn between them and the new Penta TP5. The Nikes are incredibly long, straight and plenty of spin around the greens but the TP5 has that softer feel that Im really liking. I think I'm hitting the TP5 further too.

I've tried out the Bridgestone B-330 tour my last 2 rounds and I really like the ball. For me it does exactly what you are asking for, less spin off of the driver but still soft enough around the greens for me and less ballooning in the wind. Plus the B-330 has been a lot more durable up to this point. I can play 18 holes comfortably with this ball where it is typically 9 holes with the Pro V1x. I need a few more rounds to make a final decision but there's a good chance I'll be playing this ball for the the rest of the year.

You probably are hitting it further. I noticed this too, but did not think it was the ball at first, but it certainly was for me.

A lot of top line balls don't have the feeling I prefer at impact like the bridgestones for example. The new penta compresses so well off my forged irons. Off the tee, I do not get much side spin, which is what I like (even less than the prov1x). This may be the ball I play the whole season with; I am that impressed.

Lots of good mentions here!

Here are my too three ProV1x replacements in order of my preference:

1. Penta TP5 - best feal and best all around performance and durability

2. Z Star XV - best durability, good all around performance, firmer feel than I prefer

3. 2012 B330 - nice feel, lowest ball flight

All three are very low spin off the tee (for me lower than V1x). TP5 has most green side spin, I find the other two almost a tie.

Interesting comments.

The USGA lists the Pro V1 and ProV1x as medium spin off the driver, and high spin off the full short iron. The USGA lists the Srizon XV as the same!

Contrast most other premium balls, which are listed as low spin off the driver, and medium spin off the full short iron.

Only a handful of balls are listed as low spin off the driver, and high spin off the full short iron. The new Maxfli U series is one of them. In particular, the U4x is interesting as it is designed to have the lowest launch trajectory off the driver among the Maxfli balls. Plus, the U4 and U4x both spun better than any ball tested by Golf Digest from a half-wedge.

Gift ideas?  Products I have tested.

I am a long time Prov1x user but not too fan of their durability. I have tried many different types and these are very similar

Srixon Zstar XV: I think this one is very close

I just made the same move from the Pro V1x...tried the Nike 20XI and hated the feel and couldn't get it to stop on the greens. I tried the new Bridgestone B330 and fell in love. Great feel, lower ball flight, less spin, and longer than the Pro V1X. I can't speak for any of the others (Srixon, TaylorMade, Callaway), but the Bridgestone is fantastic.

I really want to try these but I bought 3 dozen Pentas at end of last season on sale and it may take me all summer to get through them.

I haven't seen anyone post the Maxfli U4X, it is supposed to be comparable to the Pro V1X with a lower ball flight and a little less spin than the Pro V1 which is similar to the U4.
I'll second this one! Of all the manufactures who claim to have the next Pro V1 I think of all the balls I have played this ball (Maxfli u/4x) might be the closest. I think that most people will look at the logo and won't play it because of the name but if you can get over that this really is a good ball! I am impressed with this offering. Now how about some deals!!!

Add me to the list of players who switched from the Pro V1x to the B-330. It's less spiny off the driver, has a slightly lower ball flight, and is longer off the tee for me. It also is a very durable ball and can last a full 18 holes. I can sacrifice the the spin around the greens as everything is soft up here in the northwest, come summer time I might need something with a bit more spin around the greens but for now the B-330 is my gamer.
