Ping has always made quality irons and have always been an innovator and a trend setter in the industry. So, in your opinion, what are the best / top irons Ping has ever made?

Eye 2 by some margin I would think (choose your variant). Since it remains an iron that has remarkably stood the test of time in comparison to many others (including from Ping themselves), it easily takes the title of best "ever made". Yet to be made might be a different answer - of the current crop of Ping irons, the S56 stands out as my favourite.

By pretty much any yardstick it's the Eye 2, really. And for me at least, the beryllium copper ones.

The Zing 2, i5 and S56 models are all great clubs, too, but they're not in the same league as the brown bombers.

Mat are you ever going to shelf those 681's and dig your BECU's out of the "cupboard" ? More course records in your future?

Having to pick just one favorite from that list is hard, just goes to show the body of work Ping has amassed over the years. Any manufacturer would love to have that list of irons as their own. Kudos to Ping!

I've owned 4 sets of Ping's:

Eye 2 - with the good grooves, played these for about 15 years.

I3+ Blades - loved these clubs. For me they were a better version of the Eye 2.

S58 - These were good but a bit harsh at times when the swing was a bit off.

I15 - Got these as I needed conforming grooves. Maybe my least favorite of the 4 sets. 4 iron is so big it looks like a mistake.

Eye 2's were pretty much a evolution in the industry when they came out. Since then I honestly wasn't very impressed with subsequent models...i.e. Zing irons and went a way from playing them. Having said that the i20's brought me back to playing ping irons again.

From the perspective of pure performance (not how many hacks can hit them), I'd say i3 Blades and S56s.

Primary bag:
Titleist 913 D3 8.5
Titleist 915Fd 13.5
Titleist 913h 17
Mizuno MP-18 4-PW
Scratch wedges 50, 55, and 60
Bettinardi mid-shank putter

Backup bag:
Ping G400 9
Ping G30 fw 13
Ping G30 hybrid 19
Ping iBlade 4-PW power spec
Macgregor VIP wedges 51, 56, and 60
Bettinardi mid-shank putter

Eye 2 brought both perimeter weighting and custom fitting to the masses in one fell swoop. No question, they are one of the most historically significant irons in modern golf history

To me, the G-series is second most significant design ever launched by Ping. The low CG, wide sole design is supremely forgiving. Moving weight out to the toe, starting with G10's, increased MOI without increasing blade length - more Ping brilliance.

Ping G400 Max driver w/Aldila Rogue 125 Silver
Ping G425 5 wood & hybrid
Ping G30 irons w/Recoil 95

Ping G425 irons w/Accra ICWT 2.0 95
Ping Glide wedges w/Recoil 110
Ping Redwood Anser - the "real deal!"

Tough choice! Ping has always had incredible irons! Although cast, very solid feeling - dense thud when you middle them.

I'd have to agree with most - Eye2, then i5 close second (I've got 2 sets ).

I've also hit and liked i3/i3+, ISI, g2 and g5. I have some g20 long irons that completely launch the ball, but the sole is getting on my nerves a bit.

Since the question WASN'T most revolutionary or historically significant set of Ping clubs, but instead "...the best set (they've) ever made" :D ...my opinion is the S58.

A few years after release, the S58 irons even spawned a clone (of sorts) in the Titleist AP2. Strikingly similar in both design/functionality and aesthetics... it (arguably) has become one of Titleist's best sets of irons also.

No doubt, the Ping Eye 2 has its place in history. As a kid, I remember seeing them for the 1st time (I was playing Wilson Pro Staff FG17's)... my reaction was the same then, as it is now: giant, butt ugly irons, that'll be great for someone... but definitely not me.

S58. Voted. :)

Titleist.

I've had 4 sets of Ping irons thru the years and there is a lot to like about each set.

1st set were Ping Eye 2. I played them for over 20 years. The ZZ lite shafts are real good. The only reason I got another set is to try something different.

2nd set were BeCu Ping Eye 2. Got them for a good price on ebay. Couldn't get along with the JZ shafts and unloaded them to a guy who wanted them real bad and broke even on the deal.

3rd set were the Rapture V1. I really liked them but the AWT shafts sailed the ball too high for my taste. I played them for 4 years because they cost so much and I felt I had to live with them. This was prior to knowing about Golf WRX. I quickly changed my way of thinking. Thanks to you guys!!

4th and current set are i20 with the stock CFS shafts. I can't imagine a better iron for me at this time. Although, I do admit the Adams CMB irons are outstanding for me.

Several to contend here. Ping's designs are great.

The most successful iron and best to the masses was the Eye 2+. The redesigned soles were an improvement over the original Eye 2. Copper Eye 2+ are just drool worthy!

My favorite (and best to me) was the ISI. It was the last iron that Karsten was involved with the design of. Many Ping engineers have said that the ISI was Ping's best design effort. They have thin, workable soles and the "fingers" in the cavity really work at moving harsh vibration from the center of the club without having the technology of a cavity insert. I still game them from time to time, and they are just a pleasure to play.

My vote is expectable...the Eye 2.

I still bag them almost all the time. Everything else that followed were developments and modifications from the original improvements. To date I still believe they are superior other than their resistance to the fade, including the material chosen for their construction. I particularly like the extra work they did on the clubs to remove the need for ferrules.

It may be worth noting, back a few years, the Ping folks felt the ISI was the best model they ever designed.

The Eye 2 is noteworthy because of its revolutionary status, but I think the ISI is a better iron. Obviously, JMHO :)

I5 by a long shot and i10 was the worst iron Ping ever made. I've played Ping for 22 years and that's my opinion.

59's were nice bats yet the 58's were honking in every way. 57 was ok and the 56 which I currently play is also a great looking and feeling bat. I also liked the i15 however I ain't played with i20 yet.
