On Course Maxfli U3 review

Ball testing and comparisions
After reading some threads and being in the market for a nice mid price ball to play when the weather is not too great in NEPA I finally decided on the Maxfli U3. My decsions were based on the fact that I wanted a distance ball that would not run away from me on the greens. I am currently tournament gaming the Bridgestone E6 (last years model). Burner 2.0 SF TP drivers, Rescue 11 TP 2, 3, 4 and R11 Irons as well as a center shafter spider ghost putter.

I went out to the flattest hole on my course and proceeded to hit a dozen of the following balls E6, U3, Penta TP, B-330S (2010)
My game is straight, few mistakes but not overly long (driver 240-250) 105 mph swing speed 6 iron (150-155) PW(100) I need a ball that is long off the tee with low spin. My wedge game is run out, not worried about the ball checking, I like to play low running shots that roll out like putts. Handicap Index is currently 4.8. Low as 2.4. Have won amatuer tourneys and club championship.

Lets get to the maxfli- Very excited at first because of reviews. Thought this might be that one underated, under the radar ball i've been looking for. WRONG...WRONG. After 12 drives, 12 approaches and 12 putts this is what I got.

Not durable. First drive cracked the cover (i have never done this to any ball ever and have read this has happened to other people)

Side spin- MInimal, in line with other distance low rpm balls. Medium to low ball flight. Pretty good run out on drives. Hit 11/12 fairways with it. Very similar to E6, suprisingly not longer than any other ball tested. E3 and Penta were two longest for me. U3 was a little tinny sounding off driver.

Approach shots-Pretty decent, not Penta stop and a little bit longer than E6 run out but nothing crazy. About 5-9 feet of run out. Distance control is very similiar to other balls.

Putting- Does not sound soft off club face yet routinely had to hit the ball harder than any other ball I played. Very odd off the putter.

Overall I would not reccomend based on just the fact that a cover split. Had no confidence in the ball after that. Would definatly use it for just practice rounds with my son and bad weather days but unfortunatly this ball will not make it into the bag and so far for price, playability and efectiveness nothing has beat out the E6 for me

Thanks for the review.I was looking at getting some of the U3's to try,but i'll pass after reading this.I'm glad that i still have 6 dozen of the TMTP'salong w/Tri speed tours,FG tours,z-stars,& the Hex chrome.BTW,the E5 is a very nice ball & is great off all clubs+ great spin w/the wedges.

marks- i like all the E series balls from bridgestone, the E6 (whether its mentally or actuality) seems to move alot less left to right for me. The E7 feels a little hard off my putter so thats what led me to the E6. I have played the entire E series and would definatly game all of them. At this point I think the E6 is just a comfort thing for me.

Side note- I am playing a full 18 holes with the U3 today. I contacted Maxfli and they are sending a replacement sleeve for the one that cracked. Will update on the U3 tomorrow
Thanks

The z-star is a fantastic all-arounf ball with excellent durability. They're very close to the E5 with the shorter irons/wedges.They will both zip-back on full wedge shots & feel soft off the putter. The Tri speed is closer to the E6 in terms of spin & a little run-out on wedge shots.

I still play the Taylormade Burner TP(a few years old) & it's an excellent ball all-around.They check-up nicely on wedges(hop & stop).Ihaven't tried the Burner Tour, but if it's anything like the TP: It'll be a nice ball.Anothe ball that i've been experimenting with is the Wilson CI25;which is close to the Trispeed/tour.The wilson is very durable & checks-up nicely on full wedges. It is a little clicky off the putter though.I can live with the firmness, because the durability is impressive.

The Srixons(yellow) durability is excellent also. You really don't notice the scuffing like the white balls.
