Big Ben's EDITOR REVIEW
Adams Product Discription:

Idea Super XTD Hybrid
Our Most Advanced, High-Performance Hybrid Ever

For many years now Adams Golf has led the industry with hybrid innovation. This leadership has been displayed on Tour since 2005 as the line of Idea hybrids have ranked #1 on the PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours. The Idea Super XTD Hybrid is the most innovative and advanced hybrid we've ever created. Essentially, it is a driver in a hybrid body featuring a new multi-material brazed construction technology that attaches a titanium face and crown to a stainless steel sole to produce a hybrid with the performance of today's drivers. The performance is unmatched, in fact, the hybrid's face is 36% hotter than a traditional hybrid resulting in higher ball speeds and increased distance gains.

Pro's:

Outstanding playability and LONG, highend upgrade shafts, slot technology

Con's:

Expensive, flashy silver paint not for everybody, slot on topline

Bottom Line:

Adams continues to deliver the goods in the Hybrid space with a high tech beast of a club which performs beyond this reviewers expectations. The color and topline slot polarize the consumer but most will agree on its outstanding over the top performance.

Editors Review:

I would like to thank team WRX for allowing me to prepare this review. Being an Adams Idea a12 Pro user my initial impression of the Super XTD was the size. It concerned me that turf interaction may detract my interest and the satin silver paint only adds to the perception of size. Pictures and comments about this mythical beast already graced the pages of our forum and comments about the paint and topline slot already worried some early sceptics. Peronally I actually prefer a satin finish and the silver was a sharp touch so no issues here, the topline slot on the other hand I will admit was initially visible, that is until I hit ONE BALL with this rocket launcher. Yeah I said it, rocket launcher! Guys its hard to be bias about a club that out performs any other model hybrid I have ever used, and we all know thats no small number, just ask the Mrs! Turf interaction is amazingly minimal considering its stout posture, still not sure how they pulled that one off. Some have stated that this club prefers long and straight but I've actually experienced ease of use from varying degrees of rough and with mutiple shot shapes. Plain and simple, this cat has it all, however it's far from plain or simple with all this tech and hot shaft offerings you simply can't and won't go wrong with the Adams Super XTD.

Looks:

As mentioned this one is polarizing, some (me included) will love the modern flat silver finish however the traditional enthusiast may be a bit taken back by it's sporty looks. The silver will add to its sense of size but do not let this fool you, she works just fine thank you. The topline slot however has created a bit of skepticism from our community, to these folks I would say the beauty of this club lies in it's technology so embrace the slots and true love may just come your way. The Fubuki Ax isn't too hard on the eyes either you know what I'm saying!

Performance/Playability:

This one is a no brainer, the Super XTD brings it like a freight train. Long and proud as you strut down the fairway while your playing partners snear and look down in shame. Hey tell those cheap saps to buck up, become a charter WRX member and learn the same kick butt equipment facts you have. We both know they need the help!

Feel:

You know, I thought about this one for a while, it's just not the same as my a12 Pro's so it's hard for me to put my finger on it. Let's call it a medium firm but muted thwack, as with most hybrids nothing absolutely memorable which I could argue is a good thing. The shaft has a nice pronounced kick which also adds to the overall experience of the Super XTD.

Overall Bottom Line:

It's expensive and the flashy modern looks aren't for everyone however unless you play 2002 Tiger Woods kinda golf already the performance will fall nothing short of shockingly good (if thats even a word :black eye: ). From top to bottom the Adams Super XTD screams drive me fast and hard. This club isn't for simply the low caper either, it's amazingly playable from all types of conditions and for all levels of golfer. Simply put this club is fun to use, I liked this club so well right out of the box that I purposely waited for any said honeymoon period to end before I typed this review. Hey fan boy or not I can't help it, this club has game! I have no doubt the Adams Super XTD Hybrid will more than easily reach the esteemed cult status in the years to come, so much so that I baught her brother the Super XTD Fairway, enough said. :hi: :good:

I'm on the wagon for these... definitely hunting for a 3 wood. I don't have much of a need for the hybrids (too long!). Did you find that you almost hit the hybrid too far? I wasn't sure if it would be a viable replacement for an iron, or just a replacement for a fairway wood in my case.

I have a giant gap between my driver and fairway wood (40 yards on some shots) and these will definitely close the gap.

Thanks for the review!

Yes really do need to be aware of distance gains and the gaps it can create, when it comes to hybrids in general the numbers on the club are far less important than the results. I'm gaming the 18 degree Super Fairway which plays like a very easy to hit versatile 3/4 wood all day long, it's a beast! Then I drop down to the 21 degree (shorter shaft) then even further down to my 26 degree A12 Pro. On paper this combination is a mess but it works PERFECTLY for me, fills all gaps from 4 iron to driver...BB

Old thread but great review. I've been thinking of picking up this hybrid but need a different shaft. How do you like the Fubuki?

Great review. Glad you got to review this hybrid. Adams IMO is on top in this department. I don't think anyone can out do them right now.

KPH808 to answer your question, I love the Fubuki X-stiff shaft in my 3 wood. For me I have a mid to lower ball flight with it. Because of that I get a ton of roll out. I see why they say the pros went to the 3t. This past week I had several tee shots with it over 275 yards and 260 or so off the deck. This club is very easy to hit but for me so is almost every 3wood out there.

Again great review and tell us how is acts on the course for you big ben.

Thanks for the kind words, months after the honeymoon period I'm still going strong with these Adams and that's a miracle! To answer the shaft question, I'm a smooth mid/mid players and these have worked well but not 100% optimal. I probably could use a hair more spin so I would venture to believe the higher swing speed players would really like them. Heck they better for the price point! I would be remiss if I didn't mention the issues some have confronted with missing weights, I however have not modified these clubs and haven't experienced this problem first hand. Overall I really don't have a bad thing to say about the XTD's just super solid clubs...BB

Compaired to you past hybrid, thats if you played any, how do these compair in yardage. Would you say the 21* played more like a 2 iron/hybrid of your old model?

I would say launch is similar but distance is longer, you actually need to account for it in your loft selection, for example I wanted to fill my 3 iron gap and opted for the 23 degree...BB

I agree 100%, this and my Aerotech Steelfibers are the bright spots of my bag in 2012. I must confess, I am waiting for one of the weights to fall out...BB
