I just bought this club. When I was in Golf Town I hit probably every driver in the joint. All the shaft models, everything. The only driver that came close to the R7 was the G5 and the new Titleist driver. I always like to look and feel of the club even on off center hit. I play at a 3 handicap with a swing speed in the high 110s. I love the way the ball comes off the head. I wish we had more of a season up here so I can tinker more instead of waiting for 4-5 months

I love mine. I have the Graf ProLaunch 65 on it and can smack the hell out of the ball.

I have a question for anyone who cares to response. I currently own the Ping G2 10* stiff w/a Prolaunch Blue 65 shaft. I hit it well when i first got it and now i've been comparing it to the Taylormade R7 Quad and i'm thinking of buying the quad because i'm sick of the gigantic head and don't need all the forgiveness associated with the G2. Also, I find the g2's shaft is too long and even makes the stiff prolaunch 65 act almost as a regualr and my hands come through the zone well before the head. And it's difficult to work the clubhead b/c it's so large. In retrospect, I've been testing the R7 Quad 9.5* Stiff stock shaft w/ a stiff tip (65 grams) and i feel very comfortable with the 400 cc head size and can work the head easier. But i've been hearing that the head is standard 1 or 2 degrees closed. Is this true?? And if so can you custom order it to be square? or closer to it?

The Ping G2 is a great club but I found the same thing it is too forgiving and the launch angle is very high with any shaft never mind the shaft you are using which in itself promotes a high launch. I have tried every driver worth trying, without question the R7 is one of the best out there. If you like the R7 with the stock shaft try it with the Aldila NV 65 S. I just reshafted and have found that it make that club a weapon. As far as the G2 maybe getting fitted for a new shaft might be a good alternative, after all, for most people hitting it straight is a good problem to have. The R7 is 1.5* closed the R7 TP is Square.

I played a 9.5 with grafalloy blue stiff.

I set it to low neutral on windy days and high neutral on still days. Never got into setting it for draw or fade bias as I think that would get into my head too much. Before long I just kept it set on high neutral launch because I just got too lazy to change the weights.

I was very satisfied with it. Good control, good distance. I would probably still be playing it if it wasn't for the fact that I hit the Clev. comp 460 20 yards past my R7.

All in all a good club though.

This morning i was at the Roger Dunn Extravaganza.

They had a bucket full of R7 Quads lying around and decided to give em a shot.

Being that the 3W and the Hybrid i love are both Taylormade, i thought i owed their driver's a go.

I took a few out to the nets.

R7 in a regular shaft with stiff and soft tip (which was too whippy)

R7 in a YS6+ Stiff seemed a little too stiff for me.

There was also one with a Fuji Visto Pro 60 Regular that felt SWEEET but it had a weird rattling noise.

Lastly, the R7 quad with a Stiff shaft with the firm tip.

After hitting all of them into a net, i decided to pick up the Stiff shaft R7 Quad.

It felt the most solid, and i took it to get it regripped.

I ABSOLTELY luv the fact that the face is closed a litle bit.

Apparently somone above posted that it is 1.5º closed.

It's PERFECT for me because i have a natural fade.

I took it out on the course today and was (honestly) averaging 260+yds on every drive.

Not one was mis-hit, topped, skulled. One of the drives landed in the next fairway over but the rescue-mid brot it right back in play.

I was going in to pickup a Mizuno MX-500 driver today.

But after hitting the R7, i had to try it out.

To be brutally honest, i think it's the best move i made.

Traded in my old Mizuno MP-001 (which was less forgiving) but i still loved.

For now, and hopefully for along time, i will be keeping this club in the bag.

My coach and I were contemplating on the idea of me stepping down from a 460 head to a 425 or even 400.

With the deal that i found, i decided to go ahead with the R7 and as of right now, it's INCREDIBLE.

Easier to turn over, the whole face feels like the sweet spot.

SPECS:

I got the R7 Quad with a stock stiff shaft 7-65 with firm tip and and a golf pride MCC grip.

This thing feels awesome and i've got so much confidence with this thing now.

I've always had a slight fade in my drives unless i'm really working on pullin the shot to keep it straight.

One day into it, i'm knocking this driver 260 on avergage and it's within 10 yards of the target line.

For a guy 1 year into the game, i'm very happy with the results so far.

More to come later, but for now, the 400cc head seems to be the thing for me.

Currently, i've got the weights setup at a semi-draw.

The Fronts have a 10 and 2, and the rears have a 2 and 10.

(The booklet shows that neutral is having the heavier weights up front, and full draw being heavier weights in the back)

So basically, i'm on a semi-draw setup.

It's working.

I've tried to stay away from these MWT gimmicks but i'll admit to it, it seems to be working.

More to come later,

Have fun everyone.

I have always kept this as my "backup" driver, in case the latest trial (newer replacement driver) doesn't pan out. I am 6' 5" and 58 yrs old with a 95 swing speed. I have tested most of the newer model drivers (latest r9 460), many of which exceeded the Quad in distance on the monitor...but none have been as consistant in the center cut. For me, the Quad may be 10 yards shorter vs. perfect strikes with the latest drivers...but when I'm playing in club tournaments...this is the driver in my bag.

Agree with stretch1. It may not be my gamer anymore...but it is a reliable backup for sure. It's not the longest and it's not the best I've ever hit, but it is something you can play with and work the ball with; almost at will.

Probably overall my favorite driver I have ever hit.

I bought one off eBay back in 2007 (i think) and it was my gamer until yesterday. Pulled it out for an Adams 9064LS. Side note, I'm 27 and I've always been averse to Adams because of a perceoved "old guy Image" but my experience with the 9064LS was too good to keep my bias.

Anyways, I used to hate TM too until i tried this driver. It worked well for me for many years. I used the weights to help me figt off my fade and in my eperience it's quite long. Which brings me to my next point. I was getting ready to sell it on ebay and noticed mine said "max" on the face near the toe. I had no idea i was playing with the non-conforming Japanese model all these years. might explain the distance i was getting. oops! I don't remember it being mentioned in the listing. Either way it was a great driver, but my club lust finally got the better of me.

I have one that I still use. I have tried newer drivers and I cannot say that any of them have blown away this club. Plus I think I like the look of a 400cc head better than a 460cc head.

I just picked one up in nice shape from GG for $9.99. Hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago that the MSRP for this driver was $600.00.

That is great. I picked mine up about 4 years ago for $50 with the tool and weights and thought that was a deal. I really like this driver. I used the R1 for 2013 and went back to this one in 2014, and it has not disappointed. A great club in my opinion.
