Looking for College Golf

Recommended Posts

I am 21 years old and going into my Senior year of college. I plan on getting my masters degree in school admin.

My degree is Elementary Education and I want to stay in FL for credit and certification purposes. I doubt anyone will jump on this but I love to golf and whats the worst a post could do?

Distances

Driver-270 Carry (no roll on my course) reach 315 with roll

3 wood-260 carry 280 with roll

2H-240/260

4I-220 240 off tee

5I-205

6I-195

7I-185

8I-175

9I-165

PW-155

Gap-140

Sand-120

Lob-100

My course I shoot in 70's pretty consistantly. I play 3 times a week right now, but I never can get past the hump because I get out once or twice during school. Mental game is solid, confidence is good, I learn quickly.

I workout 4 times a week, 5'11 174. Played sports my entire life. Played football NOT golf in high school.

Thanks.

High 70's. Lowest scores have been a few 74's and a 68 (par 70). My game goes with how my driver goes. If my driver is on the rest of the game is pretty smooth. Never imagined playing D-1 because those kids typically come out of highschool with a ton of experience where I am not. So any D-1 if I had the chance. All I ever want to do is golf but when it's not something im doing something for a living or for a team I haven't put as much on range focus as I want too.

Mostly in the 77-82 range. I have taken lessons in the past and still get a tip here and there, but I am really into analysis of the pro's and am certainely athletic enough to change my swing on the fly without a major dropoff.

Check out some NAIA schools. You will probably have to try out and walk on. It being your Senior year already will be tough. Play in some state amateur events. If you post some good scores a coach may take you on.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Yea, I am trying to find out when my home course has its club championship. I figure that will be a good start because it is familiar, and starts me off slow before joining a big tourney where those guys do this for a living.I mean during spring and fall I play like twice a week, and summer is the only time I get to get out all the time. Thats why I wish I was on a team where all I had to do is hit, hit, and hit some more hah. Thanks

Technically, if you havent played NCAA Athletics yet, you will still have 4 years of eligibility. Find schools that offer your intended masters program. Most importantly, if you have a PING College Golf Guide, you will know all the conference tournament scores of the potential schools. From there youd want to then find out those school's team scoring average throughout the year, what the Best and 5th best player's scoring average is, potential spots opening up (due to seniors graduating) and at that point if you fit between that range you would want to physically call the coaches.

Think Lower D1's, D2's, D3's and NAIAs. Be cautious of D3s as they cant offer athletic scholarships, but they can offer Academic Scholarships that are very substantial. If you have good grades as an undergrad, that will drastically help your chances!

Heres a FL D1's I think you could play at:
Jacksonville Univ.

A tougher D1 you might be able to play at could be:
Stetson University

Definite D2's you could play at:
Rollins College
Saint Leo University
Tampa, U. of

Tougher D2's are
Florida Southern Col
Florida Tech

Definite NAIA's you could play at:
Warner University
Embry-Riddle U.

Disclaimer: Just based on your scores you gave, thats my assessment and not a guarantee. There are so many variables to all the schools I mentioned. Lastly, I mentioned 'Tougher Schools' and what I mean by that is, you would be having you play your absalute best to be contending with a spot on those teams. Your given scores tell me your game will be at between 77-81 for your first year of College Golf bc of numerous differences and the 'college tournament pressure' that also further inflates scores.

Im sure I missed schools that are 'no brainers' and I based my assumptions using the 2011 conference scores for all the above mentioned, so some schools could have got better/worse.

Good Luck!

Oh and one last point... Your distances dont tell anyone anything so dont include those to any coaches in any resume format. I could careless if you could only hit your 7 iron 130... But if your going to hit alot of GIR, thats all id care about as a coach.

Unless someone specifically asks you for your distances (which I dont see ever happening) keep them to yourself.
