College?

What colleges are you applying to or attending?
I just got accepted into the Professional Golf Management Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, my first choice and my friend just signed on with the girl’s golf team at University of North Carolina. I just wanted to see where all you seniors were applying to and/or where you college kids are going.

I'm a Sophomore and member of the golf team at D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY. Small 4-year school. Golf team isn't much to speak of this year. 2 of our starters are ineligible for the Spring semester so I'm moving from the 4 spot to the 2.

MatuCH - I know D'Youville has been looking at becoming a University because in Canada, the word college implies a 2 year or trade school. D'Youville is a 4-year degree program school and we'd LOVE to have a stick like you! If you're interested in more info, check out dyc.edu or e-mail me at [email protected] .

In my opinion, the fact that you can say that is a glowing reccomendation for Mike Small. In many instances you'll see people have a very negative view of a coach or program when recruiting/signing doesn't work out in their favor. Its good to see that some coaches (and I've had some negative experiences) still conduct themselves in a positive manner.

On a sidenote: Good luck with your selection process. I hope it goes well for you.

I am a freshman this year at Elon University in North Carolina. Great School, though I'm not playing golf-trying to focus on academics

Do you know PJ bartholemew?? he's one of my good friends from my club here in Pa.

Thanks. Things dont always work out you just have to look at the positives and then move on and focus all of your effort on the next venture.

no offense....but though you may have put a ton of work into your game in the off season...it definatly does not mean you are going to drop 2 strokes...considering those will be the hardest 2 shots of your life to drop....handicap really doesn't mean jack for D1 play...i'd add about 3 strokes on to your average...not your handicap and then see where you are compared to most of them......thats the easiest way...that and get the Ping College guide they have it gives stats about a whole bunch of schools and formulas on how to determine how you'd rank with other college kids

None taken, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for. I know I'm gonna drop at least 2 shots because my handicap is frozen in the winter but I've been averaging 3 over the last 6 rounds that will drop the handicap a lot.

Kids posts what handicap can I play D1 all the time. Although playing D1 golf is all about what you do in tournaments. How have you played in FCWT IJGT AJGA and other big events(anything that is performance based entry is a big event) if you aren't playing in those events yet then you better start or you won't be recruited to any good golf schools. That isn't saying you won't be able to walk on or play at a bad program, it just means to play for a top school it is all about tournament performance.

EMC, you're 15, looks like you've got a pretty good swing, and your USGA is a 1.9. I'd say you can definitely accomplish what you want, but you are going to have to work hard at it. If you want D-1 recognition you need to qualify for and play well in big time junior tournaments. Coaches want to see low scores on hard courses under pressure. Start with smaller tournaments to get a feel and then move up to the bigger ones. And almost any coach will give you a shot to walk on, even at great programs. Never give up because someone says you can't or it will be too hard.

Thanks a million. I've only played one event which would be similar to a junior tour event, the U15 Open Championship in Ireland, and I finished T9 for the first time out, which I thought was pretty good. Hopefully I'll get a bit more recognition once I get on the provincial/state panels

When I was applying to schools I talked to coaches at schools where I knew I could get into academically but not get really any help in admissions from golf. USC is probably my best example. They have a really strong program, yet even though they do, the coach still said he would give anyone a legit shot to make the team. If you can go out and beat a few of the kids who are on scholarship and throw up some low numbers, the coach is going to give you a shot. Your exception might be OK St., because they are going to be stacked the next few years. But I doubt that any coach would deny a really good played a chance to try and help his team.
