Titleist Velocity

BMH

Recommended Posts

Ok, going out on a limb here. I work at a golf shop. Titleist Velocity balls are flying off the shelves. I found one on a golf course yesterday. This ball is incredibly long. I mean very noticeable. Feels good off driver, irons and putter. Only downside, the ball was pretty far from the ballmark. I could learn to manage the roll-out. I'm going to get a dozen when we get more in stock. Anyone else have any opinions after using these for a few months?

I have heard much of the same things you posted. People have been quite pleased with it. But it could certainly spin a little more around the greens. I haven't played one myself, but we sell enough of them at the course that I am bound to find one sometime this summer lol. I may have to give some a try!

I like the ball a lot. IMHO, it's comperable to the TF Gamer V2, for length and feel. Greenside, it's stopping ability is like a range ball. It doesn't spin much, and I'm not a high spin player, so it almost has to hit something to stop for me. But, it must not spin much off the driver, either, because, at the end of a round, I tend to have the same ball I started with. If I can avoid short-siding myself, I really like it.

I absolutely love the Velocity balls. I usually play with a Penta TP3 - but picked up a sleeve of Velocity balls to try on the Par 5's a couple rounds back - and after the first Par 5 I switched to the Velocity for the rest of the round. It was great. The ball feels unreal off the tee. Probably the best feeling ball I've hit off the tee and I've tried a number of different balls this year. Hex Chrome, Hex Black, QStar, new NXT's, TP3's, B330s. The B330 has a similar feel off the tee for me. It doesn't feel as hard to me off the tee as I've heard other people say (I'm about a 103-105 SS with my driver and a 10 hdcp). I like to hit a cut/fade off the tee and sometimes and I can overcut it - and with the Velocity the overcuts are SIGNIFICANTLY less drastic than the TP3 or any of the other balls I've tried.

As far as spin around the greens - obviously it doesn't spin as much as my TP3's, but I don't think the difference is all that noticeable. Certainly not noticeable enough to compromise its performance off the tee. Also - as far as greenside spin - my personal opinion is that the only time this really hurts your game is on 20-30yd shots that you're looking to hit low and check. Approaching greens with 8,9 or a wedge - your ball should be coming in high enough to not need a lot of backspin to keep it on the green (i'd rather have the ball land and sit then land and spin back) - and with longer irons - 4,5,6,7 - just play your shot 10 yds short of the stick and let it roll - it's a more conservative and higher percentage play than going right at the pin anyway, in my opinion. And as far hitting those 20-30 yd check shots - just get used to playing it with more roll out - it's worth it to be able to play this ball off the tee and with longer shots. so straight. as far as the distance with this ball - i'm not real sure how much further it is than other balls cause I'm not able to completely replicate my swing and contact with my driver to get to the point where I know my ball was the only variable in the experiment. I have yet to play with this ball in high wind conditions, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs - but the B330S is excellent in windy conditions.

Interested to hear what others have to say about the Velocity

Great ball. Was playing the e6 and q star and these are better.

I'm an E6, B330RX, or Prov1 guy (depending on what mood I'm in that day), found a Velocity recently - I played it along with some NXT Tour S's I also found, and I didn't care for it very much - it (to me) sounded (felt) like a range ball. But - the first time I used a NXT Tour-S ball I hated them, too, and this time I was majorly wowed by the combination of distance and stopping power of the new NXT's on the green. Guess I'll have to pick up a sleeve of Velocity's and give 'em a real try - like an entire round.

I've also tried a lot of balls this year - my least favorite is (believe it or not) the Penta - feels squishy to me and too spinny. Okay ball once you get used to it, and truly fun to play to the green, but put any english on a tee shot and it really overrreacts.

just my 2 cents

I ordered 4 dozen after an old scratch golfer told me he used them to beat his buddies in money games. I think the low spin is manageable. You can get these balls close to the pin on pitch/chips shots. I'm used to it since I practice with mainly old rock balls anyways. The only shots I'm less confident with are shots where I don't have much green to work with.

I get more distance from a NXT Tour than the Velocity.
Actually, I played today and used a Velocity and since it was late afternoon and I was alone, I played it alongside an NXT Tour, my beloved E6, and a TM Penta. Surprisingly, the Velocity had a beautiful ball flight, and in one or two cases actually snuffed out the E6 in distance. But overall, it wasn't really any longer for me than the E6. Truth is, on approach shots all four balls were pretty darned close to each other. On tee shots, the Velocity and E6 were more predictable (straighter) and probably a couple of yards longer.

So it ain't kicking the E6 outta the bag - this week anyway.

Oddly enough I was shocked by how much the Velocity bites on approach shots. I backed 2 of them up yesterday granted on soft greens but I was hitting TP Red and V1x as well and there virtually was no difference in stopping on approach. I couldn't tell much difference on chips anyways but I always plan to roll them out and not put a lot of spin on them anyways.

Overall I was quite impressed with the ball. I did tear it up pretty good in 9 holes which surprised me.

I am a new player, therefore been playing the Nike Mojo (2 dozen/$19.99) because I would lose so many. My game has improved, so a buddy of mine and I split a dozen of these and...I am SOLD. I ABSOLUTELY TATTOOED THIS BALL!! I struggled around the green a little more than usual with it, but can definitely figure it out in exchange for that distance off the tee! I like it more than the Pro V1s I have tried on occasion. I will be picking up a couple of dozen for certain.

Played two rounds now with the Velocity. Been playing NXT S balls for a year.

On every par four (well, the 9 where I hit the fairway), I was a club closer to the green after driver. Very noticeable. Iron/wedge distances seemed normal. I had a 9 into one green where I'm usually a 7.

I noticed no difference whatsover on iron shots stopping on the green. An 8 iron rolled out about 8 feet (normal for me) and all the shorter irons stopped in a few feet. I'm not a high spin player.

This ball is long and playable. I am a half club longer playing this ball. Good penetrating trajectory on drives, and it will hold a green with the irons. I actually spun the ball back on a couple of short irons Saturday. The only two cons that I've noticed are greenside spin - chipping it will roll out more, which for my course I like due to soft conditions. The other is putting - this ball, as can be expected, is firmer and doesn't feel as well as some other balls. Still shot a 73 Saturday, not much to complain about overall. For $27, this one is hard to beat. A significant improvement in overall performance from old NXT.

They hold up on greens quite well on approach shots 6-iron to wedge. For the longer irons its a one hop stop on number of occasions or one hop and roll a touch, but still on the green. For shorter irons, I've had one stuck in its own divot on the green lol. But good stopping power except on chips, but just have to adjust.

Hey Bama, roll tide ;) As for the Velocity - I just played it for the first time Sunday. I like the ball - it is FAR - but 2 balls got scratched/skinned on the cover so they don't hold up quite as well as the Bridgestone e6 I normally play. I may try the Bridgestone e7 after this unless there's a Titleist that can hold up better?

I played the e6 earlier this year bc I had a slice/spin problem that I've now overcome - the ball was always seemed straighter than others.

Roll Tide!

They scuff a little bit but not too bad. I can play one 18 holes with no big problems. However, the Bridgestone balls as a group all seem to hold up pretty well to me, as compared to other balls.

Can anybody compare this ball to the DT Solo? Used to play old DT Solo before being discontinued, switched to the Srixon AD333, also discontinued. The last thing I want to do is switch to this ball and have it discontinued as well and all of the WRXrs blame me :scare2:
Titleist still makes the solo, which is softer than the velocity. The ad333 was replaced by the Qstar.

Will the velocity work if your driver swing speed is in the mid to upper 80's ? Or is the compression too high ?

Just wanted to mention that the last time I was at Walmart they sell the Titleist cosmetic blemish x outs for $9.86 per box. They had 11 boxes with all velocity balls in them. Cheap way to try it out.
